It’s baaaaaack~
1. We are using ordered chapters again for this series. The sizes will be variable, however, based off of crf18, unlike S1.
2. There are going to be a few changes from S1, such as a bit more padding for the subs and a few minor script changes. Mostly you shouldn’t notice.
3. As with S1, we are going to do karaoke for all songs. Episode 1 was softsubbed \kf however because it’s not a song, it’s a school anthem.
4. We will be doing a 1080p version because this aired in native 1080p. There will be no XviD. This is a comparison of 1080p vs. 1080p->720p->1080p. Anything in white are details lost from downscaling.
5. Mio is still mine. I didn’t defect to Azusa like most Mio shippers.
6. This, according to BDs, is a 27 episode long series.
7. We fucked up. Hence why there’s a v2. They can be downloaded below.
1080p – Mio
720p – is
480p – mine.
DDLs – OK

April 13th, 2010 at 5:38 pm
yay 1080p tyty
April 13th, 2010 at 5:38 pm
cool thanks XD♥Chihiro
April 13th, 2010 at 5:39 pm
27 episode long series as in… 27 episodes in just season 2 alone or 27 episodes of season 1 and 2 combined?
April 13th, 2010 at 5:41 pm
And of course you’ll be doing BD?
April 13th, 2010 at 5:41 pm
>1080p
Loling.
April 13th, 2010 at 5:57 pm
I’m pretty sure that 1440×1080 is a 4:3 resolution, unless you did anamorphic or something. Also, I’m pretty sure no show airs in 1920×1080 (a 16:9 resolution), because Japanese television only airs in two resolutions: 704×480 for SD, and 1440×1080 for HD (of course, resizing is needed in order to get correct 16:9 widescreen AR).
April 13th, 2010 at 5:58 pm
It’s anamorphic. And BS-J and BS-11 are both 1920×1080 channels.
April 13th, 2010 at 5:59 pm
What is this i don’t even….
April 13th, 2010 at 6:04 pm
thx a lot man, really appreciate it. finally, it’s back. with superb hd quality even! Whooooo!!!
April 13th, 2010 at 6:04 pm
There will be 28 episodes spanning to 7 months. The last episode will air either end of October or beginning of November. According to the official K-ON TBS site, the staff mentioned in their blog that this will most likely be the last season (28 eps) which arcs over too all of the manga chapter covered to date. Then the project will probably go to suspension. When new content of the manga is release, they might reconsider to continue the show.
April 13th, 2010 at 6:06 pm
yes!!
April 13th, 2010 at 6:34 pm
whoa so nice!!!! Thank you Chihiro!!!
April 13th, 2010 at 6:42 pm
9 BDs of equal price with about half of them claiming to have 3 episodes indicates 27 episodes. This makes sense as the broadcasting slots are sold in chunks of 13 I believe. Thus two slots of 13 + 1 dvd episode for 27 total episodes. If you could point out where on the blog it says 28 episodes, I’d appreciate that.
As for how much it’s going to cover, S1 covered 2 volumes of manga in 13 episodes. That was all that had been released at the time. Since then, there has only been one volume released with a 4th coming while the show is airing. The 4th also looks like it could potentially be the last seeing as the 4 older girls are getting ready to graduate. Odds are KyoAni is either going to have to create filler, or move at a much slower pace.
April 13th, 2010 at 7:27 pm
Mugi is my love. Mugi will always be there for me. Mugi forever~!
April 13th, 2010 at 7:35 pm
Hmm, I’m not sure what to think about the new OP.
Speaking of music, the first line of the anthem should probably be written as “aozora” (青空) rather than “ao sora” when the v2 rolls around.
Thanks for the release!
April 13th, 2010 at 8:02 pm
dang, the OP is soo fast but i love it.
April 13th, 2010 at 8:07 pm
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! NO!!! NO NO NO NO no no….
MIO IS MINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU HEAR ME!!! MINE!!! YOU LITTLE BITCH!!!!
April 13th, 2010 at 8:29 pm
The new OP reminds me so much of Maria+Holic’s OP.
April 13th, 2010 at 8:35 pm
yay! I waited for this one
great job as always
April 13th, 2010 at 9:17 pm
What does it mean when you say something like “1080p–>720p–>1080p”? Does that mean you downscale 1080p to 720p then you re-upscale it back to 1080p?
April 13th, 2010 at 9:42 pm
epic stuff, keep up the good work ^^
April 13th, 2010 at 10:03 pm
well if Kristen takes Mio, then nobody minds if I take Azusa
April 13th, 2010 at 10:03 pm
guest, yes. That’s the easiest way of checking whether or not a video is an upscale. If there are details lost during the downscaling, then it’s true HD, otherwise, it’s an upscale.
April 13th, 2010 at 10:21 pm
I’m glad my 1080p DDLs weren’t almost done, since now I have to start all over. FUUUUUUUUUU!!!!! Just kidding, it’s only going to take a little longer now.
Edit: Raging at fucking hotfile now. Every time a file finishes I get an error and the shit doesn’t go through. Switching to MU now. Sorry for the delay.
April 13th, 2010 at 10:43 pm
nice ^.^ finally…
April 13th, 2010 at 10:57 pm
Let’s put MIo and Azusa together… mmmmm…. big sister and little sister….Yeah!!
Thanks for the episode and future releases in 1080p =:)
April 13th, 2010 at 11:00 pm
Great work as always!
April 13th, 2010 at 11:06 pm
Any chance of sharing her? ^^
April 13th, 2010 at 11:41 pm
@guest: They mean they took the original 1080-vertical-pixel image, downscaled it to 720 vertical pixels, then upscaled back to 1080 vertical pixels. They then took the difference of the resultant image from the original image to show what details would have been “lost” had they simply upscaled a 720p source to 1080p.
April 14th, 2010 at 12:44 am
Why in 4:3?
April 14th, 2010 at 1:50 am
So, I saw on AniDB that the only two people to rate your release so far gave it 1s. That must mean it sucked, right?
April 14th, 2010 at 2:09 am
@Xiong
We attract trolls. Personally, I would never trust those ratings because different groups attract different types of people who will rate them higher or lower then they deserve. My opinion is that people should try to sample as many groups as possible and make a choice based on their own opinion of each release.
Edit by mod: Also, AniDB is just generally terrible because it’s easy enough for a group to get together and say, “Hey, let’s all vote 10s on our release and vote all 1s on Group X’s release.”

April 14th, 2010 at 2:44 am
Whoo!
I appreciate your continuation of this cute series ^_^
April 14th, 2010 at 3:01 am
We’ll share Mio. I’ll compromise no other way. It’s a war I’ll win if you decline. :3<3
April 14th, 2010 at 3:08 am
Well, I hate to repost, but I’m still having a bit of a problem
When I play 1080p files in MPC, they go through this weird cycle of perfect -> audio unsync (they always have FLAC, so I can’t tell if it makes a difference) -> freeze and mute -> video speed-up -> perfect -> repeat
This doesn’t happen in WMP, but the subtitles stopped appearing after I re-installed CCCP with MPC. The Playback Help article said to uninstall all codec packs before installing CCCP. Is there a separate one for WMP subtitles I may have gotten rid of?
Can anyone please tell me how to fix either or both of these issues?
P.S. I’ve already got the CoreAVC filter enabled and disabled FLAC decoding.
P.P.S. I’m a quality whore, so getting the 720p version is an absolute last resource for me, even if it would instantly fix everything (which I’m assuming it would).
April 14th, 2010 at 3:56 am
im a Mio fan too and i didnt defect to Azusa….my love for em is just the same ^^ Azusa is cute and Mio is Moe
April 14th, 2010 at 4:31 am
Aw, no Xvid. Well, back to the fansub list.
April 14th, 2010 at 4:32 am
RoadSign: It’s anamorphic. That’s just the resolution that it aired at. It would be a waste of bitrate to encode at 1920×1080 when the broadcast was 1440×1080.
MSOSB: It may be that your computer is too slow to play 1080p, which is the case on some older systems. Even my system, which is a 4 year old dual core, has had occasional problems playing back 1080p before. Anyway, the filter that handles the subtitles is Haali’s Media Splitter, which should be part of the CCCP. Make sure that’s enabled, because that’s likely what’s making your subtitles disappear.
April 14th, 2010 at 4:38 am
Weird, there’s something wrong with the download, it repeats.
April 14th, 2010 at 4:49 am
@Soichiro
Thanks. It IS too slow, but everything is in an external HD , so I get the 1080p versions for the day I get a better one. Anyway, the Haali was enabled, but its Autoload VSFilter wasn’t. That fixed it.
April 14th, 2010 at 4:55 am
MSOSB: I had this issue on my acer revo which I use for a htpc. I too have coreAVC installed but there was one step that seemed to make a world of difference for me. You will want to go to your VSFilter Configuration (start->programs->combined community codec pack->filters). From there, go to the “Misc” tab and check “Pre-buffer subpictures”. Once I did that, the out of sync issue I was having went away. Hope that helps!
April 14th, 2010 at 5:08 am
Thanks for posting. The new ending is nice
Yoko Hikasa FTW!
Unfortunately, I seem to face an infinite loop at about 2 minutes into the show. I use the latest VLC Media Player and have tried with v1 and v2 of 1280×720 and v2 of 848×480.
I guess I will try the highest definition later if no one has any alternative
April 14th, 2010 at 5:25 am
“I use the latest VLC Media Player”
There’s your problem. VLC can’t handle ordered chapters much less do anything without SUCKING. Go check out the playback help page for your fix.
April 14th, 2010 at 5:37 am
i understand your feelings about mio…
thank you for continuation of this very popular title
April 14th, 2010 at 5:57 am
OK
SRSLY
If you Cant even play a 480p mkv you need to get rid of that dinosaur of a PC. Xvid is so 90′s.
Oh Domo! Domo! Domo! for the release + 1080p W00t!!
April 14th, 2010 at 6:58 am
Are you sure this is 1440 by 1080 resolution? It plays in 1920 by 1080 (16 by 9) on my computer. It’s definitely not 4:3. Is this some kind of bug on my end? The image doesn’t seem to be stretched.
April 14th, 2010 at 7:05 am
Chihiro thanks for another quality release. Oh for the record this 1440X1080 encode is impressive, you are the only subbing group doing a 1080 release ( to my knowledge ). Not as impressive as your K-ON! BD rips but very good, it blows the other 720p versions away. So thanks for your time and efforts, Chhiro BANZAI!!!!!!
April 14th, 2010 at 7:05 am
Gars: It’s supposed to be like that. It’s anamorphic. That means the video is encoded in a narrow resolution and stretches out on playback. That’s actually how DVDs and most TV stations do it.
April 14th, 2010 at 7:43 am
I’ve always wondered if there is a quality/fizesize trade off happening when doing anamporhic encodes. There’s less pixels to encode, so logically smaller filesizes (300mb/file for this vs 1GB/file for season one, although other factors are at play too), but doesn’t this also mean there’s less detail when it is stretched out to the full 16:9 resolution?
April 14th, 2010 at 8:44 am
hey, thanks chihiro!!! i already feared you wouldnt do it and got frostiis version, but now i can watch my favorite team! thanks
@ DragonRanger:
anamorphic is of course less detailed than the true resolution, but some TV or DVD formats are defined with a certain resolution (PAL: 768 x 576 is 4:3, NTSC: 720 x 480 is 3:2 but always stretched to 4:3).
April 14th, 2010 at 11:37 am
Azusa’s tongue!
April 14th, 2010 at 5:04 pm
Well I see now that VLC is not the player of choice for some people, according to a few of you it can’t handle ordered chapters. In that case…..
Any recommendations?
April 14th, 2010 at 5:12 pm
Disregard my previous ignorant statement(s) I was a fool and didn’t think to check the playback help page. My sincerest of apologies for my blatant noobness.
Thanks again Chihiro!!
April 14th, 2010 at 5:12 pm
@Ouse: http://www.cccp-project.net/ is most commonly recommended for Windows users, installing pretty much everything you need to watch anime and the ilk properly. It’s a good first step; if you need special features like DXVA, there are guides for that
April 14th, 2010 at 5:41 pm
owh,
azu-nya……
she’ll be alone after the other four graduate
sad…..
April 14th, 2010 at 6:20 pm
I’ve got a little problem stretching to 16:9, the 1440×1080 ones
I’m using K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 5.8.3
I use Windows Media Player 12 to play.
I play the 1440×1080, it wont auto stretch to 16:9 and still remain 4:3 at start,
unless i drag the timeline go forward abit, then it stretches to 16:9,
however it changed back to 4:3 again at 17:00 then i need to drag timeline forward again to fix it.
it changes to 4:3 at time 0:00 and 17:00.
seems like it’s a little problem on WMP to play anamporhic encoded video.
(not video problem, just my WMplayer problem, I wonder if there’s a way to fix it)
If I play it with Media Player Classic, it’s all good,
I think I need to use MPC to watch K-on S2 from now on
It’s great 1080, very nice quality and really close to BDrip quality at 300-400MB file size..
Chihiro has done very well
April 14th, 2010 at 6:32 pm
Why you spilt OP & ED out from Ep.1 ?
I don’t understand, but your sub is great.
April 14th, 2010 at 6:39 pm
@Brigette
those OP and ED are linked into all episodes, they took out OP ED to have smaller file sizes for each episode.
you need to enable “Try to open linked files” in your Haali Media Splitter
Episode 1, you will see OP and ED, but actually it plays the OP and ED files at the right time when you are playing episode 1 (or upcoming episodes)
April 14th, 2010 at 7:17 pm
I love Mio to death, but as you watch the series, Yui really is the definition of kawaii! I claim her!
April 14th, 2010 at 8:32 pm
@Squall
Yeah, WMP has some issue with anamorphic playback. I think MPC is generally considered superior anyways.
@Brigette
It’s something called ordered chapters.
We split the OP/ED out so that they don’t need to be included in every episode. It makes the files for every episode smaller while still allowing the whole episode to be viewed. Check out the FAQ page if you have issues with it.
April 15th, 2010 at 1:14 am
WOOT! ED and OP CDs come out later this month!
April 15th, 2010 at 6:59 am
Anyone know why the initials HTT keep appearing during this episode? What am I missing here?
April 15th, 2010 at 7:03 am
HTT – Houkago Tea Time
April 15th, 2010 at 7:39 am
love the karaoke sub for the intro. It fits the really fast and messy intro really well lol. Don’t think any other sub is spending so much effort on OP and ED for this show xD
April 15th, 2010 at 12:29 pm
“wman Says
HTT – Houkago Tea Time”
Thanks for clearing that up wman, althought I’m not sure why they use HTT instead of the kanji for keionbu.
April 15th, 2010 at 12:52 pm
Keionbu is the club. Houkago Tea Time is the band name. Conceivably, if the club had more members, it could include multiple bands. Don’t forget that the girls have also started performing outside of the school.
April 15th, 2010 at 3:21 pm
DAMN YES!!! Mio is back!!!
April 17th, 2010 at 12:59 pm
Why not put the lyrics of the OP and ED in sub channels?
Can you at least upload raw versions of the OP and ED in 1080p? Please?

I’ve bookmarked, Dugg, and I joined the RSS subscription. Thanks! .
