Both 1080p and 720p versions use FLAC audio. The 1080p uses 24 bit audio, and the 720p uses 16 bit. I am not doing ordered chapters, as there was no creditless OP/ED included in the Blu-Ray.

August 13th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
THORA did? Meh, I’d prefer to go with groups that actually did the full job themselves.
1Gb of Moa ftw! teh winz!
August 13th, 2009 at 3:10 pm
Who gives a shit if thora did? I’ve never even heard of them.
Thanks Chihiro! Gotta love High-Def Moe!!!!!
August 13th, 2009 at 3:11 pm
Hot damn! Gorgeous blu-ray! Definitely gonna watch all the moe in true HD! Hopefully K-ON! get’s a second season after there are more manga chapters.
August 13th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
Moe in 1080p. Yay!
August 13th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
Can you post the 1080p picture? I want to see if the 1080p worth the download. And probably it would be better instead of using 16bit for the 720p, just use 24bit but with a very good lossy compression.
Btw, can you hear the difference between 24bit vs 16bit? and how much space those audio take?
thanks
August 13th, 2009 at 4:05 pm
Whoa 1gb it’s much bigger than the brurei episodes of Fate/Stay Night I just got 2 days ago but it’s the quality that matters…
August 13th, 2009 at 4:12 pm
Holy freaking crap is that an awesome picture!
August 13th, 2009 at 4:16 pm
OMG, moe hasnt looked this good =)
Thanx for the release ~~~
August 13th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
Finally its here!
Thanks alot for this awesome release!
August 13th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
YES! BluRay rules!!! Without a doubt, BluRay is the way anime was MEANT to be watched. I’m sure almost anyone who’s seen enough anime in BluRay will agree. It’s like BluRay was created just for anime. Chihiro’s K_On! looked terrific before, but it looks even more spectacular now! Great job, everyone, and thanks for the release! I’m in heaven.
August 13th, 2009 at 5:15 pm
Awesome.
Thankyou.
August 13th, 2009 at 6:01 pm
Thanks guys. The quality looks amazing.
August 13th, 2009 at 6:07 pm
lol I never get why people like the blue-ray versions so much. They seem the same to me, but anyways thanks for the release.
August 13th, 2009 at 6:07 pm
Awesome! 1080 and 720p of moe!
August 13th, 2009 at 8:16 pm
that was awesome.. I smell the difference between the two..
August 13th, 2009 at 8:28 pm
On the 1080 version around 8:10, the audio isn’t synced correctly with the video.
August 13th, 2009 at 8:44 pm
also at about 11:18.
August 13th, 2009 at 8:49 pm
again at about 13:46. Any chance you guys could make a patch?
August 13th, 2009 at 8:51 pm

Can anyone confirm yurichan’s gripes?
August 13th, 2009 at 9:25 pm
@Yurihan2
Its your PC install CoreAVC.
August 13th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
chihiro fansubs is love.
August 13th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Thanks for the release!
I am normally running hardware-accelerated DXVA2 H.264 decoding using a recent CCCP beta. Playback with that is full-rate, very low CPU usage, and I can therefore confirm that the audio sync on this release is fine. If you’re going out of sync it’s because you need more decoding power; try CoreAVC, or if you’re curious, try the latest CCCP beta, turn off H.264 decoding in ffdshow, and tell mplayerc to use the internal H.264 (DXVA) filter. (Being aware that it could break everything, so please be careful.)
If I may offer some constructive criticism to Chihiro, you might want to be more careful of banding on the gradients (clearly visible, for example, during Yui’s assembly, or whilst she’s watching the band play on her uniform). It’s not v2 material, but you might want to change the filtering, turn more post-processing on if you can, or even up the bitrate on future eps?
Large, delicate gradients like you can find in anime is a huge challenge to h.264, especially at these resolutions; it’s prone to turning into bands of colour if you’re not very careful. You’ve done well, but having reviewed both, I personally think Shinji have done better with the [Shinji-CoalGuys] release, and with slightly fewer bits too (don’t ask me how; smarter filtering?). It is, however, quite subtle. I could live with it. Your mileage may vary, and some LCDs (particularly TVs) try to mask it or don’t show it well.
Don’t worry about people saying about audio sync or whatever. Many PCs just can’t play 1080p well yet. CoreAVC can help a bit; future CCCP versions may help massively. Oh, and faster machines, they help too. It’s not like you’re going to get a slower one in future, is it?
In summary, and in my opinion, between the two out there:—
[Chihiro]: As-far-as-I-can-tell-accurate softsub translations, non-flashy hardsubbed OP/ED with actual karaoke lyrics in kana and romaji. The occasional banding issue on school uniforms in some scenes.
[Shinji-CoalGuys]: Slightly looser (more collequial?) translations, gratuitously wild OP/ED animated softsubs; slightly lower bitrate but slightly better video quality.
[Mio]: Suddenly makes me want to play bass. Moé. Oh, so very moé. <3
You might choose [Chihiro] if you preferred their more subdued OP/ED style for K-ON!, or if your video player doesn’t support animated softsubs very well yet—or [Shinji-CoalGuys] if you can actually play it perfectly and like their wild&crazy OP/ED style. If you’re having any trouble playing it at all, you want the [Chihiro] one (I can only just get the [Shinji-CoalGuys] one working perfectly myself).
As for [Mio], I think Kristen’s got dibs, although you may have to let Mugi-chan watch; she likes seeing “bonding between girls”. *grins*
I think there’s room for preference between them, and encourage the curious to try both and see which they prefer (and leave flamewars in the past where they belong). They’re both great releases, and I haven’t entirely made my choice yet.
Thanks very much, Chihiro! =) I love this series, and I really appreciate your work, and your other efforts to date, and I hope Mio’s pure 1080p moé radiance doesn’t make your heads explode, because you need them for the other projects too.
I hope that one day, there’d be a second series of K-ON!, as After School Teatime have a long way to go to be the band in the ED; but one day, they’ll get there, and I wouldn’t mind seeing a few more slices of these particular lives—alas, perhaps their story is over, in which case we can at least rest knowing that at least someone didn’t make a second season with 8 episodes of filler. *coughs*
August 13th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
I doubt there is much difference between BD and HDDVD, but at the end it doesnt matter as long as it is highress. ^^
@ishiroyuka:
I got F/S Night blueray but its only 720×400, what resolution is yours? If thats the original BD res of the series, its very disappointing and its logical that the files are smaller than 1080p files.
August 13th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
Whoa o_O I never thought the first anime I would watch in Blue-Ray would be K-ON! XD
August 13th, 2009 at 11:44 pm
Thora is doing the bluray release as well and their using Frostii’s subs for their translation which it think is far more superior to chihiro’s script.
For those never heard of thora than i’m sure you barely or just new to download bluray anime release.

Also, been waiting for this for a long time
August 14th, 2009 at 1:37 am
Awesome, been looking forward to this.
I just have one question/suggestion/whatever, though: Before you guys get too far into the work for this, might you consider changing your minds about not using ordered chapters? Especially for the 1080p releases, it really helps to conserve some hard drive space, since the OP/ED for each episode is a single, separate file. (This should help out with potential bandwidth issues, as well.) Even if there aren’t creditless OP/ED files, it’s still a great help.
Just something to consider. Either way, thanks a ton. I’ll be sticking to you guys whether you use ordered chapters or not. Keep up the great work.
August 14th, 2009 at 2:08 am
Thanks for the blu ray, it has amazing quality
I will use my TV to rewatch this series.
August 14th, 2009 at 2:16 am
Hey, I never noticed because I hadn’t watched the first episode in a long time, but the song they play for Yui to convince her to join is Tsubasa wo Kudasai from the Fuwa Fuwa Time single! That’s awesome!
August 14th, 2009 at 2:53 am
I was planning on downloading 1080, but omfg 1gb xP
I’ll take the 720
btw, will you make a batch with all eps?
PS: note that now it is not off topic
August 14th, 2009 at 4:24 am
Well, I do like the improved quality, but I’ll stick with the TV versions. Not enough desire for the Blueray to get em now… Maybe if a batch in the future, but for now, TV version good enough for me. ^^’

my copy is 720p(1280×720) and yes this one is much better than the Fate/Stay I got although the animation style used in Fate/Stay Night is much better IMO but that’s a different thing…

sorry I guess I never heard of them. I get the mkv version from my fav fansub groups then move on to the next series. If I didn’t like the original quality then I might look for a better quality release >_>
Aha. I just read Tow3r’s post and thats why. I don’t look at groups that don’t use their own subs.

Question… I play it on media classic player, but it won’t give me the audio… it’s mute for some reason. When I play it on VLC, the audio works. The thing is the quality is worst also… Don’t know why. Why doesn’t the audio work on Classic player?

hahaha!.. Tsubasa wo Kudasai that is!.. xD

I had this problem a few months ago. Do you have the FLAC audio format enabled for MPC? You can check by going to ffdshow audio properties and look at Codecs. If the FLAC decoder is set to disabled then double-click and change it to libavcodec.

Speaking of THORA: What happened to your planned releases of ef – melodies in buru-rei?
You only got up to like episode 8 or something and then you stopped…
October 16th, 2009 at 4:53 am
Holy… I just rewatched Episode 1 of K-On and just realised that the song that Mio, Ritsu and Mugi played to Yui is actually in Rebirth of Evangelion 2.0.
The song is played when during Shinji’s attempt to save Rei from within the angel.
Awesome!

Is it possible for you to post DDLs for the K-ON blu-ray episodes? I’ve been trying to get episode 1 for over a week and a half now and it’s still only 70%. there are hardly any seeds, is it possible to have megaupload links or something? Thanks
