To tell you the truth, I dont really like Chihiro subbed episodes in the early days of Chihiro because of the poor quality of the vid, and translation (yeah I know Japanese). but what impressed me about this group is their ability to improve with the time. as their encoders get more experienced, the video quality is increasing and the translation also improve in some manner.
and right now, I presume Chihiro is on par with other good sub-groups. and yeah, nothing is flawless, so do Chihiro. but you have to view it on the overall performance rather than single aspect.
with that, I gave Chihiro’s staff a bow of respect, for their improvement in the past year.

I’ve actually compared some of Chihiro’s series with other fansub groups, and I happen to like Chiriro for some series. As long as it has good video quality and decent subs I’m good. I think people bash Chihiro too much. Thanks Chihiro staff, and I’ll be expecting more good work.

Re that MyAnime criticism of yours, well, I bear no grudge against Chihiro. I can’t think evil of a group whose releases I have watched and enjoyed. But when it comes to more fine-grained judgment then… go look at your response to the bit of “pointing out mistakes in your releases” I did back for Asura Cryin’ 02. Nobody from Chihiro said “uh, let me see,” or “okay, we’ll see to it,” or “no, this is where you’ve got it wrong.” Some person from the staff who didn’t bother leaving their name called me a troll instead. Is it odd that you get trolling when you call accurate criticism “trolling?” One gets what one names.

Haha. I have to say, I haven’t really known Chihiro in their early days, so I can’t judge based on it. Though, I have heard stories about it. As of now, however, I don’t see anything wrong with your subs, other than the fact that sometimes you don’t put out the OP & ED. (But that’s just my tastes talking.)
Although, very well written post. At least it wasn’t rage-filled like CoalGuys had theirs. Regardless, I enjoy your subs, as well as CoalGuys, and many others.
As for MAL, well…Good luck with that. There will always be stupid people out there.

That’s pretty ridiculous. I’ve watched Chihiro subs since Penguin Musume and I admittedly did switch off to other subs for a temporary amount of time (mostly because I’d been following the other groups for the particular series before Chihiro existed), but when I returned to watching Chihiro subs for Asura Cryin’ the quality had increased tremendously in that 3-month gap. MAL can go diaf.

Well… People are never satisfied with what they’re given.
Yes… given: it’s free.
Half of them don’t even know their grammar well enough to criticize others’. I’ve seen releases from a LOT of different groups, and Chihiro is really one of the few that I consider to have consistent good quality.

Its more about matter of preference than figuring out a container type. Some prefer Mp4, some prefer Mkv and some ppl prefer avi/xvid. Theres nothing really wrong about that. Saying that some1:s preference is wrong however is what these real “ignorant fools” do.
ppl just need to realize that all of these have their own pros and cons, which pro/con one values, is greatly affected by how he can or likes to watch fansubs. But in the end its left for the encoder to choose the filetype which format and settings will they use.
As for ppl who prefer Xvids, try checking out Chietain20’s website

The best you can do is just ignore those, criticizing the work you do even though they don’t have a clue how a fansub is made.

There are many people out there who just heard criticism about something they themselves have never seen with their own eyes, and then just keep repeating like a parrot.
For example you want to build a radio mast. Immediately there are people who lament. They complain about having headaches even though the mast wasn’t in use yet, or even though they live directly at the feet of that mast (the electromagnetic radiation is almost nonexistent at the mast).
Just ignore those poeple, you don’t have to lower yourselves to that level.
Accurate language is dying, not just English but other languages as well. Most people can’t even hit shift for some odd reason.

1:I rearely make mistakes(and I hate people with bad grammatical skills as well, even myself when I make typing mistakes…)
2:I have good reasons when I say/write something(or I just simply shut up)
3:I never judge things without any consideration (except some people, but those have already “proven” themselves)
4:I have already been to Tskuasa’s page
5: I always accurately point out mistakes (sometimes tooo many, and I become annoying -.-)
So don’t talk about the site users in general… As you might know well, idiots can be found anywhere, and some sites (and other, non-virtual places as well) are their gathering places.

Although there are some requariments in grammar and writing in general for fansubs, hating ppl with “bad grammatical skills is retarted. English is language along many others, you cant force ppl to be perfect with it.

The problem with ignorance is that it requires no effort. Ever heard of a song called “I like to ride my bicycle”? Me neither. Just because knowledge is free, doesn’t mean people want to know.
Also, as far as grammar/spelling in subbing, characters don’t always speak perfectly. Sometimes people have accents that cause their words to sound strange or they pronounce thing funny as a pun. These things can make translation very difficult. Not to mention slang terms.
I blame cell phone text messaging for the death of languages.

You do realize that not every1 is using windows? (theres plenty of ppl using MAC and Linux ;P) atm I dont have any player thats compatible with ordered chapters, but they play the episode well so I have no problems as I usualy skip them anyways. And no CCCP isnt available for Linux (altho its actualy easier to get mkv playpack in linux as you only need to download the restricted extras pack from package manager).
Imo this ordered chapters system is a bit unpractical in technical sense, the episodes could be provided in the similar way with any format or container by just cutting the opening and ending from every episode and providing OP and EP only once. Ppl would need to manualy play the op and ending but it would still have the same effect while working with any player.

if you use linux/mac then use mplayer, its a really great player. Well i don’t know anyone who watches the OP and ED EVERY episode. Ordered chapters is still more convenient even if it doesn’t work because your download is smaller and you can watch the episode without having to skip the OP manually. And if you REALLY want to see the OP/ED you already have a separate file for them.

Sorry about double post but post got cut xD. Chihiro isnt perfect but its pretty good xP. Thou a lito more appealing karaoke wouldnt hurt *nudge*. Other than that pretty well done, just don’t compete with the popular fansubs and ur good. Hatsukoi is kinda being done by m.3.3.w so most ppl will be going there but gl with with urs xP. I support Chihiro in all animes if no other “known” subbers.

Don’t worry about what other people say. You guys are an awesome fansubber and I see you guys are improving a bit. Your works and translations are understandable and at least you guys don’t have bad attitude compare to coalguys (I couldn’t stand coalguys’s rude comments on chihiroeven tho you guys didn’t do anything to them). And yeah, japanese words have multiple english meanings… plus not everyone can translate japanese phrases in perfect english. As long as the translation is understandable, typesetting is fine, and quality is good (which chihiro does), it is good enough

Actually, fansubbers ususally make better translations than the so called ‘professionals’
That is because there is no such thing as translating from one language to another 100% accurately, and this is true for any translation…
A translation is considered good, when the meanings are similar, the style fits the character {fansub}, and the resulting sentence is something a person with that language in that situation would say…

Chihiro subs is the *the best subbing group*. Period. You are the fastest, highest quality, most consistent releasing group currently working. Yes, there are other good groups out there and not every Chihiro release is perfect. But, overall, you are without a doubt the best group.

No I described that its bossible to cut OP/ED out of every episode and share them only once with or without OC. Ordered chapters is a mkv feature(?) that allows inserting these in to every episode. However theres no real need to even insert these to every episode so its just extra feature, but in technical sense its rather irrelevant.
You can easily cut OP/ED out of any videoformat the way you want with apropriate software without ordered chapters or not. But without ordered chapters you would manualy need to play the OP/ED.
But I am fine with both, as for me its all the same since ordered chapters doesnt work so I need to play them manualy if I want to see OP and ending. Beside Chieftains Xvid encodes only have the ep so I wont be using OC but still getting only the episode

To be honest, I never understood what the hell people thought was wrong with Chihiro. I mean, I personally haven’t found any major mistakes, and found that the video quality was just fine for me, in the two series that I got from them, Sekirei and Akikan, and yet I’ve still been hearing all sorts of bullshit like fail translations and crappy video quality.
To that, people, I have one single statement for you: Before you judge, experience it.
It’s as simple as that.

if chihiro had bad vid quality, they wouldnt wait for the best HD versions of the raws and stuff
as for the sub quality, by far one of the BEST out there, with no mistakes (ok maybe 1 or 2 errors but their so small that u dont even noticed them more then 75% of the time)
i gotta also give chihiro the credits of subbing some of the animes that other groups completely pass by like akikan or the newest one hatsukoi limited (i think the last one, only chihiro is subbing it, just dunno if its a co-work or by chihiro only) and for that u my respect ;P
for the final part, to all the ppl working on the subs, coding, etc on this group, dont mind what others say about ur work (the ones that never seen at least 1 of ur complete works) cause u guys rock and are a great subbing group

mmm, didnt got the opportunity to know chihiro in the early stage but since i get here i cannot complain about the quality of the work of the group.
There will be always people who talk shit about others, the problem starts when people start listening and believing that shit without any kind of proof.

I can’t understand these people’s comments. I didn’t know about you guys before your “reformation” or whatever, but currently you guys are one of the best fan subbers. I doubt most of the people who comment negatively actually have watched and episode, and are just following the bandwagon. You guys have a terrible rep that you completely don’t deserve. But I like how you guys still keep subbing, cause you guys know you’re doing great job. Plus you’re not assholes like other groups, cough* cough*, CoalGuys, cough*…

Thanks for the release, though could you do something with SD h264 release? Been waiting since 3 days ago. But, still it’s worth to wait. Thanks a lot, you’re still one of my favourite subber after all.

Chihiro has improved a lot since it was first formed. The subbing quality was pretty bad in the beginning, such as the time frame of Sekirei, but seeing ZKC, each episode’s subbing just gets better and better.
Don’t mind the the trolls/retards too much. They’re just everywhere and the gene pool will eventually get rid of them.

Screw them nay sayers. I first started watching Chihiro with Minami-Ki 3and ever since I’ve found no better group for quality releases.
