Anyways, little bit of housekeeping. What are your opinions on how we should batch this? We can make 1 torrent for all 51 episodes, 2 torrents (1-26, 27-51), 4 torrents (1-13, 14-26, 27-39, 40-51), or a combination of the listed possibilities (IE, doing 1 for all 51 AND 4 torrents split by 13). Please note that anything that involves episodes 14-26 will most likely have to wait a bit, since we need to fix up episodes 14-22 before putting them out for good. Episode 1 and 12 will also be de-23.976-ified, and de-pink font of death-ified.

I’ve never seen this before but it looks funny, so i’d like a batch of all the eps in Xvid version (to watch on ps3!) I’d wait for a full release of Chihiro subs.
may as well do one large batch instead of smaller ones, people can choose which eps they want to download anyway in their BT client. Plus it would keep thing simpler and neater for you wonderful folks at Chihiro.

i would say a batch of 1 (1-52) and 4 batches of 13 would be best, that way you cover the front end, power omg internet users, and the back end … slow net users…
this also allows for batches to be downloaded one after the other that way someone can grab 1-13 and be watching those while the next batch is DLing there by furthering the addiction!

A single big batch is the only sensible way to do it. Part of me wants to say you should do batches of 13 at a time but that’s likely to disrupt the seeding – a single large torrent is the best way to ensure all the episodes remain available for as long as possible
(and for my money you shouldn’t bother with xvids at all, they have the same problem, and people who want them can learn to transcode, it’s not that hard, but hey, if you’re willing to put the extra effort in to make two versions then fair enough)

Two large batches for 1 – 51 in mkv and xvid formats. Most torrent clients such as a Bittorrent, micro (u)torrent, and I believe Azeureus allow one to choose what episodes from the torrent to download.

not really fussed about batch sizes, but if i had a preference i’d go for either 1 big or 2 medium sized batches as the smaller ones will no doubt end up being a pain to download eventually since people will mainly seed the first and last batches more than the rest (similar to gundam batches ive tried in the past)

I would say 1 torrent too but i have seen this before where everyone says 1 torrent would be great then when it is created ppl leech & do not seed it then dies of death, listings of previous animes by any groups on mininova.org or other listings sites proves this, just look at some of the scores or ratings on some of them with seeders to leachers ratio.
I would recommend doing both just to cover all areas, for example a ep 1 – 51torrent & and split 1-26 & 27-51 torrent so the other one backs the other up if the all-in-one torrent dies of death.

1 Torrent. The people that don’t want/need certain episodes can use their client to deselect them. Plus it will allow for overall better seeding if the users are split up between 2 separate torrents.

I liked the idea of 1 torrent and four folders in it. I myself want to watch this show while I haven’t seen a single episode, there will be people who will want to download certain parts and I think that option would be the best for all

A single batch of all episodes … if anyone needs some specific episodes only its easy to select what episodes to download and what episodes not to download … so IMHO i don’t see the point of more batches .

Get yourself mediacoder from http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/ then drag’n'drop the MKV into the GUI. Select “Video” from the tabbed block on the left hand side of the UI and choose XviD. You can pick bitrate in that pane and choose a bunch of codec options in the right hand pane. Ignore them for now, you can come back to this later. Don’t worry about your computer making beeping noises when you click on things, that’s something that MediaCoder does for some reason.
Select the “Audio” tab and make sure it’s set to LAME MP3. Ignore the other options. Hit the “Start” button above the file listing. Wait. It’ll take a long time.
This is by no means the optimal way of transcoding things. It’s good enough for end users, though.

Submitted that post because my test run was taking time. Transcoding to AVI means no soft subbing, which makes things a lot more painful. I forgot this. You’re going to have to do something more extensive than using MediaCoder.
Also, might cause sync issues between audio and video as well. You’re probably going to have to use a far less user friendly tool. Frankly, waiting for the XviD encode may be easier and better in general.

I wanted to transcode to avi since the laptop I’m currently using can’t handle the mkv files. Dx It used to play them fine, but now it just lags. I tried using different media players and CCCP but same result.
But still, I suppose I can give a shot to what you suggested xD If it’s no good I suppose I can wait for Chihiro to release the avi version.

Yggy, I find AlltoAVI a great program to transcribe things into avi format. I rarely have sync problems are any problems with it. It does take time but hey it works.

Guys, if you ask me, you shouldn’t have started doing episodes CD-wise (CD/2 = 350MB for mkv and CD/4 = 175MB for avi), you should’ve encoded DVD-wise instead (DVD5/13 = 344MB and DVD5/26 = 172MB, accordingly). That’d let you go with people downloading and archiving your releases, considering that DVD5 is most common media for backups ATM. And that’d let them easily come back to seed when needed, even directly from DVD.
But since it’s too late to change anything for this series, make two “complete” torrents – “complete” torrents tend to live longer compared to “split” ones:

But keep in mind that larger torrents have larger piece size, causing inefficiency in transfer (especially when someone downloads files selectively and they aren’t aligned to pieces’ boundaries).
tl;dr: make one torrent for each type and try to keep torrent’s piece size within 512kB-1MB for avi and 1-2MB for mkv – that’ll give you 356kB and 178kB .torrent file for 2 first (more efficient) and 2 second (smaller torrent file) piece size limits.

To those who want XviD: go get .avi raws and chihiro subs on tokyotosho.com (subs mirror: http://www.mediafire.com/?cd3liwnsyiz – will be removed on Chihiro’s request). But if you need hardsubs to watch this ep on, say, standalone device that can’t handle external subs, you’re screwed unless you know how to encode and can make harsubbed version yourself.

What is the point of getting all vulgar and complaining about the xvid version? I’m also one of those that is waiting for the xvid release, but ticking off the people that put the effort in to make it possible seems dumb to me. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t worry that it may have been forgotten, but I let m my faith in this fan-subbing group carry through and haven’t been disappointed yet in seeing the finished product. With all the episodes they’ve put together for us, does anyone really think they’re going to bail on us now? It’s not like they have unlimited resources, time, and staff to make everything happen all at once. That’s not to mention that this is one of the series that they take the most pride in. As aforementioned, if there is really that much of a rush, you can always transcode it like the morn dipicting doing it 50 times said. I wait for Chihiros version because a job done right is worth waiting for.
