Where are the Xvid for Skip Beat! ep 02 ‘n’ 03? I have been waiting like forever now since you realeshed H.264 … my computer can’t handle that format when its not in 400×700 so i’m currently crying my eyes out and also come in here like 3 times everyday to see if you have encoded it? We of the old Computer society demands some answears for your tardiness or atleast an apology!
You are freaking lucky that when that was posted, I was in a fairly good mood. I’m addressing everyone at once. You have absolutely NO RIGHT AT ALL to demand ANYTHING from us, be it an apology, answers, episodes, shows, or formats. You’re paying NOTHING for this. We’re under no obligation to do anything for you at all. So you have no right to demand. If I wasn’t in a good mood at that time, I would have probably just said “Screw XviDs from now on” and everyone with an old computer would have to suffer.
Come on. If you’re that desperate to see the episode, watch it streaming somewhere.
Now, onto other things. We’re working on both Quartet and RV as we speak. Quartet this week will be released in 3 formats instead of 2. Well, 2 formats, but one will have two different types. Why? It’s for a little bit of fun on my part. Skip Beat finally is XviD encoded (that 02 encode took 4 hours alone), and will be ULing as soon as I get some wireless time. After then, we should have everything but ZKC caught up. But that’s just timing and encoding left right now, so it should be out soon.

^— I hate to say this, but that’s not entirely true. While you may not get ‘paid’ for it, people do make donations, and, unless you have a dedicated server, or are getting ripped off, hosting does not cost as much as you’ve made through donations in the last four months. so while you may not ‘get paid’, you get donation money.
I’m not a donor, and I don’t have any rights to tell you what to do, but if you used all that $ for hosting/bandwidth and your domain name, you’re getting screwed completely. Again I’m not trying to sound like a prick or nothing, nor am I telling you what to do or anything, I just don’t find that statement to be 100% true.
But anyways, looking forward to Zettai Karen Children when you get around to it. <3

Some people just don’t get it. I’m taking care of a wiki (or was, when I had more free time) about a game (DDO if you are curious about it) and I get people sending PMs like “Ze wantz moar inf0rmation!!!11 W0rk n00b!11″. They don’t understand it’s an hobbie, not a job. (Or even funnier, that it’s a wiki and that they can edit it themselves.)

Actually, I believe Chihiro Hosts direct downloads from their website. I know for a fact after helping friends and colleagues with their websites, having Direct downloads can add quite a bit to the bill.

That’s quite an extensive list, and the bandwidth it takes up wouldn’t surprise me, especially with the rather generous goals. ($130 us for two months, with roughly 100 direct download possibilities, I’d have to say that is very generous)
Then there’s the old computer person, who may or may not be joking, and I tend to hate those people.
I have a personal belief that those people should troll only on veoh or some other site. Personally i think trollers who constantly beg for something should rot in hell, but that’s another personal belief. I used to change the format from .mkv to generally .avi on my own, and upload to veoh saying that I changed the format myself, the original was from ____ fansub, and this current file is supported by ____ fansub, but then i had people trolling that account, and it just so happened I was in a terrible mood when an annoying person started demanding, so I deleted all those videos. I’ve never felt happier in my life.
But, it seems Kristen has a much kinder heart than I do, so I’d like to thank everyone at Chihiro for their hard work, and those trollers who don’t care about anything but the next release or format, please go eat your own fecal matter.

I say drop xvids and welcome MP4. I feel bad for people that are still forced to used those ancient formats. The quality is really choppy about 70% of the time compared to other formats. Its almost 2009 now. Everyone should have a up to date computer by now that can play MKV files. If your so bent on AVI just get a converter.

I changed the format without their permission, using their timing and scripts to, to .avi in order to upload it onto Veoh. ^– Yes I know Chihiro has direct downloads, but that would still be a rip off $ wise for hosting for as many episodes as are their. I’m not trolling or bitching, or telling them to get the fuck to work, I’m just saying that the statement made was rather unorthodoxed. I could care less how long they take as long as they come out. If they spent that much for bandwidth for those few episodes, they have too big of a server for what their needs currently are.
I don’t manage the site, I don’t make their decisions, and I’m just saying it seems really imprudent to make that statement. I really appreciate their work, other wise I couldn’t have ZKC, and I agree with everyone who is bashing old computer, though, that makes you look no better than O.C. him or herself. I just find it rude to take donations then say they don’t get payed for it. Which, although it may be true, their are many problems with it. I’m not demanding anything, I’m not trolling, and I’m not saying they are retarded or that they are asinine, I’m just stating my opinion.
As for the XvID and MKV thing, if you’re downloading anime, and cant play MKVs with your normal player, get freaking VLC and learn how to use it. 8 out of 10 720p(HD) videos takes less than 100MB of ram, and barely any CPU usage through VLC because it uses it’s own coding using direct access to library files, instead of codecs. Although you may run into subtitle problems, this is easily fixed in the options of VLC if you take the time to learn how to use the program.
Again, I’m not bashing, trolling, or whatever, just expressing my view on it, and yes, I agree the O.C. is wrong here.

VLC is crap for 720p, simply because it was never ment to play them. It has almost zero softsubs support and very poor HD support. For the love of Nagi, use MPC-HD + Core AVC. If that does not run it…nothing in Windows will.

i agree with blah about vlc ive never had any troubles and the latest version auto loads softsubs which makes life alot easier. the player also has better picture quality and sound options so its nowhere near as bad as people claim (most claims ive seen seem to be based on the older versions that have been updated a heck of alot since then)
tbh though mp4 is a better option for encodes imo if u need evidence for this check around some of the groups like yuurisan coz theyve managed to fit superior encodes into a smaller space using that format and the picture is crystal clear.

You mentioned something about encoders, so I’ll mention an encoder who helped re-encode some of the things you posted into AVI format: Tsukune. Tsukune should be on your team. He has even somehow successfully pulled off an h264 encoded AVI that’s actually usable.

I can watch both with my new computer. with my old one I could too (6 years old) but it was just bad. The only reason I still watch Xvid is cus of the file size, window size customization, alt+] & alt+[, and I dont see the difference in qualities.

If i were a fansuber i’d only released h264 myself, why stress myself for people who refuse to upgrade thier computers or set them up correctly. Seriously at worst they would just not get your version of the subs and if your the only group doing them then they are SOL. One encode = easyer on the encoder and faster releases.(btw filesize who cares, you can get 500GB HDD’s for 60 bucks these days, and DVDR’s are even cheaper… HDD space mmmmk)
IMO fansub groups need “its my way or GTFO” type of ideal.
Anyways i think you guys are doing a great job but i say definately drop XVID if at all possible. . . unless of cource you got idle encoders or something who don’t mind dedicating the time to encoding another version for no reason.

I don’t see any problems to watch MKV or AVi files on my computer, a otaku’s computer should be perfect to use at anytime. A computer that keep having problems or whatever issues that can’t let some people to watch is not fit to be a computer, just throw it out =.=
This is really getting big, Chihiro is the only english subbed group I’ll watch now.
Other english fansubs subs very slow, but Chihiro is the fastest. Hope those guys who had problems downloading MKV can go watch online or download from other sites, it’s your fate to have such a computer.

Just a thought really, but checking back here 3 times a day isn’t the best place to look for releases. looking om Nyaa is better since i’ve found the torrents on there ages before they’re finally posted here.
People like the xvids because it makes it easier for making DVD’s ut of them. MKV’s don’t play on DVD players. Plus personally i prefer the xvid/avi since i can then recode it to RMVB getting the file sixe down to 75-80mb with little quality loss. This means i can usually get 2 shows on a single DVD when i archive. With MKV’s i’d need to reencode the file to avi first, then to rmvb.

I was hoping it would be mentioned before I mentioned myself, and “Animeruko” pretty much took care of it. Just got myself a high quality 1TB portable HD for practically nothing. Anyone with a paycheck can get one if they need to support their anime fix (since we all know it’s not an addiction, it’s a lifestyle ^_^).
So who needs Xvid when you can play all the high quality versions without any problems if you want to be that serious. The space is unlimited, and it’s for free… take advantage and do everyone else a favor and stfu and gtfo if you can’t deal.
For those who don’t like Chihiro subs because they’re “a low quality speedsub”, congrats on your worthless opinions. Even if Chihiro is a “speedsub” group, based on how they release, that makes them a Quality SpeedSub group ^_^
Who cares if the translations are different than other subbers (if they use chinese subs and convert for some releases, that wouldn’t even be very surprising as a result).

^ Problem is that subs go away after conversion. Aegisub is also inaccurate with mkv subs, therefore, might screw up subs on occasion.
And another thing that should be mentioned, some people posting say that people should get new computers. Only two years ago, 1GB ram and 128 mb video card sufficed and was more than enough for handling almost everything. If you are suggesting that we need to buy a new computer/hardware upgrades every year to keep up with the technology that is changing extremely fast, then I have this to say to you: not everyone has the money to spend on cpu upgrades. I’m not complaining myself, as I don’t mind waiting, but I wish you people complaining about other people having “bad” computers, please try to think from their perspective as well.

My 6600GT was great and i had it since it was released no problems with current videos, I upgraded to a 9600GT a few months back to play Age of Conan. The 9600GT is dirt cheap and can play anything out there video wise. If you cant afford it try getting a job and learning how to manage your money.
Don’t make other people cater to you because you refuse to put fourth the effort to support your own needs. (just directed to “people who cant afford”)

I could care less what container or encoder is used, so long as I don’t have to deal with huge resolutions. Yes, on a 4 year old computer 720p counts as huge. I’d love to have 480p of anything: avi, mp4, mkv, ogm, mov… fine. I can deal. I can play with my VLC settings to decode anything at 480p… and SOME 720p files, but they look like poo. So yeah, I really appreciate the avi’s simply because they tend to be lower resolution, and will run smoothly (barring a shitty encoder, which the Chihiro team is NOT!)
Oh, and to all you fuckers telling us to buy new computers… I’d love to, but it’s really quite costly to be a full time student. I dislike minutiae, so I’m just going to state that new computers are NOT the way to reduce the need for student loans.

Its not their fault someone choses not to upgrade their computer, its not their fault someone choses not to work, its not their fault someone cannot work because they are underaged, its not thier fault someone doesnt know how to manage their money and over extends themselevs with bills.
If i can struggle and work hard, sacrifice somethings for other things and make ends meet and save for the things i want anyone else can too. I never said it wasn’t voluntary, that wasn’t the point, you obviously missed it. Not that I really give a damn anyways since everyone is just going to say what ever they want and think want they want regardless of what anyone says. I could sit here and explain in detail, but considering the fact that it would make no difference means that doing so would be a waste of my time as is this post here.
But just to note, just cause something is voluntary, doesn’t mean the end result is not the same does it? You could argue the differences between them, but the results would be the same regardless. They receive money from their fans, which, yes, is completely voluntary, and yes, this isn’t their job, and no, they don’t have to do what anyone says.
But yet, I express my opinion on the whole thing, and now suddenly I’m the crude one for stating my view on the whole subject, like I hate this group or something. You must think cause I have my own opinion and choose to express it that I’m one of those who just come around to bother people. Well, if that is what you think, then by all means go ahead, but I know that’s not my reason, and I know exactly what I mean to say even if it does not come across to everyone the way it is meant to be.

Animeruko, I still don’t think you are understanding me properly. I said that I didn’t mind the HQ encodes in mkv format because I can play them fine (except op and ed, which doesn’t really matter for me). I am merely saying that you should merely think about other’s positions. I hope you were not being sarcastic about it not being their fault, as it really isn’t. There are always people less fortunate.

It honestly doesn’t take that much horsepower to play an h.264 encoded video, get a computer from the last 2-3 years and it won’t have a problem playing it. If it does that means that you are doing it wrong and therefore fail at life…..a lot.

Y’know, until this post, I had no idea that h.264 was a better format for compression and quality than Xvid. Never bothered to google it up and find out for myself, I guess.
I had always thought Xvid was better because, uh…there’s a “X” in it. Like…”Xtreme”. Heh.
If I had known h.264 was a better format I would have only picked up h.264’s to begin with. Hell, maybe I’ll just replace all my files now.

mmm i think there are ways to ask for things, if old computer users want the xvid format they can politely ask for the Chihiro team to do it. Even if there are donations they are not obligued to do this job and i find that they are doing it very well done and fast.

I actually already dl the other version, but wanted to throw out some support against the complainers – you are not held to a schedule, there are no contractual agreements that bind you to release within a certain time frame. Donations should be considered as payments for services already rendered – it is completely within your rights to drop all projects and never sub again.
That being said, please don’t do that! I like too many of your projects.

US have the right to demand at least since we are the reference of chihiro is popularity and rank among other fansubs, its just that, that kind of demand old computer said was, hes saying his own side, he’s checking xvid 3 times a day (well i check xvid from time to time i dnt complain and i wait patiently) so i think we can demand from chihiro as their supporters (donator or not) if we have the right attitude, all i can is, release the HD and the XviD to prevent this kind of thing, since chihiro fans, supporters are expecting much from you.. remember you are being recognize for your fast release.. so please maintain your credibility.. chihiro rocks for me coz you have great subs and quick releases..

I cannot understand the ppl that still use Xvid formats, ok its good if you wanna watch it on a DVD Player that can play Xvid / DivX but seriously ppl who keep complaining about this, just do us all a favor???……Get a F**kin brain!! Alls you need to do is get a codec pack like K-Lite Mega Codec Pack which i recommend as i hate the CCCP pack cos it does not cover everything like K-Lite does & thats it, job done!!
I mainly use Windows Media Player 11 to play all my Anime as it does 99.99999% of all my anime, the small percentage that does not play i will use VLC which in some ppl’s cases can be problematic yet comical, my advice if you can’t work Windows Media Player, then you shouldn’t be using a computer let alone being let loose to try and work out how to play stuff in VLC……simple as i mean come on WMP is the easiest player to get use to for Windows users and if you cant get it to work in that then well i think you’d better do some research or hang your head in shame.
It is true its at the groups discretion to do the files in different formats but if they see the vast majority are using the MKV or MP4 format then there is no point in bowing to the small numbers that want xVid just cos their pentium 300 won’t play it, little hint which i think sums it up for everyone else, PC’s are around £150-200 ($350-400) so there is no excuse that you cannot get a new pc, and if you still cannot get a new pc then get a video converter & do the bloody video conversion yourself as why should it cut into other ppl’s time in the group when its only for about say 50-100 ppl who still want xvid when 1000’s+ use mp4 & mkv.
I fully support chihiro in all its hard work they put into making their subs as good & fast as they can put them to us the public so i fully respect any decision they are making……….after all they are doing something for us for free which is in some regards that is classed as non-legit by some organisations that shall not be named (FUNa).

Just a few, quick, disconnected points.
Kristen, I’m going to guess that the majority of the people whose systems can’t keep up with all MKV h264 releases are ones who don’t complain, who appreciate your efforts, and that the noisy prats doing all the whining are in the minority.
So far, I have yet to see any mention of a program or programs that could be used for converting MKVs to AVIs while keeping the subtitles intact, from anyone in this long thread and elsewhere. I’m guessing that no such program exists, since a reference to that would give the whiners an alternative to just whining, although I’d love to be proven wrong on this. My system is able to squeak by with many h264 MKVs, but ZKC is one of the few which seems to push the limits a bit too much, simply because it can’t keep up. I’ll take DmonHiro’s advice, and see if MPC HD and the core version of AVC work better than VLC.
Finally, to those bashing people who simply aren’t going out and buying a new computer, please don’t. A new computer often means a new system board, new CPU, and new compatible memory, plus sometimes other things. Not everyone can so casually think of that few hundred dollars as being so minor, when they may be having trouble paying for stuff far more critical than watching anime. Telling Chihiro to “stop releasing XVIDs” is as idiotic as “hurry up and release your XVIDs faster”, IMHO. I appreciate Chihiro for all of their hard work, never complain about what they release, and upload at least 5GB for each episode that they release. As long as the few XVIDs are released at some not too distant point, I’m happy.

When I get some MKV video I use the MediaCoder to convert it to AVI… It’s just so simple and just take like 30 minutes or so to convert the episodes.

I have made comments about other ppls compliants on here before and ppl still does not know what it take to sub an anime. I agree with Kristen on this if you want to watch this anime in xvid format so bad learn to encode and sub them yourself the ppl in the fansub world all groups do this for free and some of the complaints I have heard are uncalled for. Chihiro is not the only group I have heard these complaints there are others. also there is new video cards out that will play HD videos it is just the matter of buying it and puting it in and also if your computer is not running windows xp or Vista or mac os 10 or not compatible with these os then it is time to get a new one. my computer is not new it is about 2-3 year old and it can play mkvs as long they are in 23 fps it does not matter what size the rez is just as long it is 23 fps i can play it . also most computer as long as the video is in 23 fps it should play if you have a 32 bit color video card in your computer.

for all the subbers, this is just a hobby.. not really a job.. well.people should be glad that someone is taking the effort to do the subbing.. i personally dont really care since i can jolly well understand most of the Japanese but my friends cant. though they do get donations but how much that really be.. i dont think that either will it be able to compare to a full fledged job..

Who the hell watches stuff on a computer?
TV programs should be watched on a television, and for that you need a set-top-box.
The most flexible one at the moment is XBMC, and the easiest way to install that is to chip an Xbox. You totally can roll your own MMPC and Linux distribution, but while XBMC is crash-only, Linux is not. So if you want something that switches on and off in less than ten seconds, then XBMC/Xbox is the say to go. This precludes h.264
But not HD; the only issue with HDTV XviD is that it’s rather large. I think we’ll agree that this isn’t a problem, as storage and bandwidth are cheap now.
FWIW, I transcode stuff with mencoder, because I don’t enjoy being beholden to other people.

Yo. My computer can play mkvs and such just fine, despite being old. [dual core s939 opteron OC'ed and a 7600GT SLi setup]
But I noticed that only one person mentioned xbox.
I use my Xbox360 to play the files and MKVs don’t play on xbox. [soft subs aren't part of TVersity's abilities to transfer] and I love watchin’ anime as it was meant to be. [on my freakin' tv]
I’m on the .mp4 boat. It doesn’t need to be 1280×720 or other HD format [filesizes too ginormous] But 640×480 or something to that effect won’t bother my TV in the slightest.
