I vote that we sabotage mal and anidb to make the ratings as unreliable as possible. Since it’s kind of amazing that people take that biased crap as fact.

I love this group so much, that I don’t mind that Kristen is editing my posts for lulz. <3 <3 <3
July 10th, 2010 at 2:06 pm
changing mal and anib still doesnt change your group’s awesomeness though
July 10th, 2010 at 2:12 pm
changing my comment is so coal Kristen …cant handle the truth there :’(
Changing trolls to lulz is quite fun.

nice one
<3
thanks chihiro
July 10th, 2010 at 4:22 pm
Lol, don’t worry too much about the ratings on anidb and mal. As long as the translations are okay or understandable, it’s all good.
Haters are always going to hate. Anyways, keep up the work ^_^
July 10th, 2010 at 4:45 pm
Can’t wait until they get to Ai’s route.
July 10th, 2010 at 4:50 pm
haters don’t hate , they just don’t like things that they don’t hate .
July 10th, 2010 at 6:06 pm
They are populated by groupies with very strong biases. You just need better groupies …
I do not think that sound right, going away now.
July 10th, 2010 at 6:25 pm
lawl at all the ‘enhanced’ comments made by chihiro.
July 10th, 2010 at 8:45 pm
I am a faggot who likes to suck dicks
July 10th, 2010 at 9:08 pm
dun care bout ratings and stuff….as long as i enjoyed it, dl!! thx a bunch chihiro XD
July 10th, 2010 at 9:58 pm
Lol, I wouldn’t even worry about it. The people who aren’t involved in these “fansub wars” like myself, simply ignore the fanboys and trolls (wait, is there a difference?)
But it would definitely be nice to see more unbiased comments and less trolls, I always feel filthy after reading AniDB or MAL comments.
July 10th, 2010 at 10:30 pm
whats the point in getting down on some comments. your producing right
July 10th, 2010 at 11:29 pm
Thank you!
July 11th, 2010 at 12:38 am

anyway thx for the release
July 11th, 2010 at 2:32 am
Thanks for the rainbo… I mean 2nd episode..
going to anidb to start things~
July 11th, 2010 at 3:34 am
Am I the only one here who thinks the mc’s sister is the best girl in the show?
July 11th, 2010 at 4:56 am
The sister has her charms but her MEGA tsudere/jealous mode is kind of a turn off. Her affection towards her brother is about as subtle as a hammer but of course mc’s in this genre are retarded.
July 11th, 2010 at 5:48 am
Thanks for the releases

July 11th, 2010 at 9:58 am
to be fair you picked a show which already has 2 good subbers doing it. Eclipse is one of the best groups, with a perfect mix of Speed and Quality. UTW are a group gaining a good reputation fast. The only people who’d get this from chihiro are loyalists. Normal fans would get it from one of the other 2.
July 11th, 2010 at 3:52 pm
While I generally like Chihiro a lot, and find their haters misinformed or just plain trolls, you’ve made a *lot* of mistakes with names in Amagami. Eclipse made an unusual number of mistakes with names in the bit of ep 1 I watched from them too though, so maybe it’s just a case of inexperienced translators all around? =/
Anyway, please double-check names. Name readings are easy to verify and getting it wrong really does make the whole translation seem to be of much lower quality. I feel like you’re slipping back into the huge name issues you had with Zettai Karen Children.
Other than that, a great job. Just please be careful!
July 11th, 2010 at 4:38 pm
It could just be that the names in this show are weird or hard to understand. Not that I’m actually watching the show, but it’s possible, especially if there are a lot of Engrish names (again, not watching the show, so I don’t know)
July 11th, 2010 at 4:40 pm
No, they’re plain old Japanese names. This is a standard Japanese high school romantic comedic drama show.
July 11th, 2010 at 5:08 pm
@sdsd
There’s no problem with the names. They were taken from the Kanji in the CCs. The only two that might not be what you expect are Myaa and Nii-ni, which are both pet names Miya uses, one for herself, and one for her brother. As they are not real words/names, I am not inclined to change their romanization. All the other names from ep one are golden. Next complaint please.
July 11th, 2010 at 6:55 pm
First off, I’ll admit I was wrong about a “lot” of mistakes. I was mixing which mistakes were Chihiro and which were Eclipse.
“They were taken from the Kanji in the CCs.”
There’s the problem… Kanji don’t have one reading. Especially for names. I’m sure you realize this.
Kanji is not a definitive source? How about what the characters on screen actually said? Or checking out the name readings on the Japanese wiki? Or looking anywhere on the internet where these characters have been discussed by people familiar with the game? Character tagging on danbooru is actually a really good source too, most of the time. Basically, you have to double-check when using something as ambiguous as a script.
This is right from our subtitle file: “first things first, i’m translating off of CCs ONLY. dunno what the hell is happening aside from the lines, and they don’t tell me who the speaker is more than half the time. i suppose i’ll check it later when i have the resources. ~Moshi”
Translating without seeing or hearing what is going on guarantees mistakes will happen. Translation should always happen with the actual material in front of you. Even if that means it takes you an extra day or two, it’s a better result. Especially when Chihiro seems *really* concerned about the reviews they get on MAL and the like, going by all the comments made about that on this site.
“The only two that might not be what you expect are Myaa and Nii-ni”
I know what those are, and have no objections at all to them being left as-is. In fact, I rather prefer it and am glad you left it.
Anyway, here are two I noticed through a quick skim:
Dialogue: 0,0:06:02.84,0:06:05.07,Default,,0000,0000,0000,,Do you want to come with us then, Tanabachi?
* Her name is Tanamachi. Kana is たなまち. It’s on JP WIki as 棚町 薫(たなまち かおる). It’s even romanized for you on the official website. Tanabachi doesn’t seem to be a valid reading of that kanji combination anyway.
Dialogue: 0,0:15:28.03,0:15:33.22,Default,,0000,0000,0000,,She can’t help it. Tsukabara-senpai has to take a stand as the captain.
* Tsukahara. 塚原 響(つかはら ひびき).
Honestly, I like Chihiro translations. I like that you keep original name order, I like that you respect honorifics. When I see that Chihiro is subbing a series, I’m glad because I know that series has at least one good group working on it. But name issues have come up in multiple Chihiro shows before so I’m especially sensitive to them here.
July 11th, 2010 at 9:04 pm
BAD KRISTEN. STOP FEEDING THE TROLLS.
@Spain
Eclipse’s quality tanked with Amagami in my opinion. There were a number of rather liberal choices made in Ep1 such as replacing “Onii-chan” with whatever his name was that I didn’t expect from them. I think their TT comments said that it’s a new TL, so yeah. I haven’t watched any UTW releases, so I can’t comment on that.
July 11th, 2010 at 9:05 pm
@sdsd
lol, ok, first
apparently you’re missing the sarcasm, we don’t care about MAL or anidb ratings in the least.
second, the reason our TL is using CCs is because he’s on vacation right now, working from his iphone most of the time. It’s not “an extra day or two” it’d be 2.5 weeks, which is unacceptable. I’d rather have an extra error per episode than wait 2.5 weeks to release.
finally, you’re right about the two naming errors you’ve pointed out. If I recall correctly, those names only came up once each, and thus would not have been edited for consistancy (editor does not know japanese, and thus assumes that the first time a japanese name shows up, there are no typos/incorrect kanji readings and checks for consistancy thereafter.)
I understand that you are worried about names not conforming with established romanization. It’s not that we aren’t interested in using the correct names. We aren’t perfect though, and there are only so many checks in the subbing process before an error makes it through. I can tell you right now that the english speaking editor is not going to skim japanese wikis to see if every name is correct, and you already know the TLs circumstances. The naming errors you are concerned about should disappear once our TL is back from vacation. Having verified those two names you mentioned, they will be corrected in the future.
Before you ask, no, I don’t believe a v2 will be made for either episode base on those errors, but they may be changed for the batch.
Thank you for your comments. In the future, know that we are more likely to take your posts seriously when you point out actual errors instead of exagerating that we had a *ton* of them.
July 11th, 2010 at 9:40 pm
I’m loyal to Chihiro and Doki so i dont pay that much attention to the ratings because I know you are good fansub groups, but its amazing the number of down votes you guys get on mal as soon as your group releases an episode for a new series. other than the trollsubs or crunchy/funi-rips u guys are probably the most hated group on MAL. its a shame since i find nothing wrong with your subs.
July 12th, 2010 at 1:47 am
People who watch shows from multiple groups seem to fall under the impression that fansubbing is some large community project where all groups come together to divvy up what shows they will do. Chihiro and any other group will sub shows that interest them and they literally get no benefit from pandering to whiny fans who act like they should be collaborating with other groups. It’s like a video game fan complaining to X company “Blizzard is already covering RTS games, do something else!”
Quality issues aside, it would be kinda nice if it really worked like that. Then again, it would be kinda nice if I were rich, the world was at peace, and idiots didn’t act like idiots…
July 12th, 2010 at 9:55 am
lol, I have no idea why Chihiro should be hated that they took Amagami SS as their new project and receive comments from haters, but there are still many idiots in this worls, so I guess it’s inevitable.
I respect Chihiro for the work they’re doing and actually watched 4 versions of 1st episode, including Chihiro, taking everyone into consideration and wanting to know the results of each team’s work. People should be grateful when show is oversubbed, but majority, I suppose, hates it because their ignorance in terms of fansubbing starts to shine, since they have no idea what their choice of fansubbers should be based on, translation/quality? But they have no idea about any of those (: So you can expect them anytime and everywhere telling you that AniDB is a reliable source, you should drop because someone translates/rips faster…
Anyway keep up doing your best Chihiro staff (: v2 can be done in the batch, but this doesn’t change the fact that you’re good (8
July 12th, 2010 at 11:34 am
Honest to god, i dont read comments much, but seeing ‘sdsd’ troll back there with that long as comment made me LOL =p
July 15th, 2010 at 1:40 am
Thanks for the release. Does it slow down and go out of sync for anyone else when it shows the title for the episode? It’s a little after 6 minutes in, the part where it says Approach. I had to skip past it and then it played right. Everything else was fine though.
July 15th, 2010 at 3:56 am
Keep up the good work!
Thanks for all the work you’ve donated into subbing then posting the episodes
To HELL with the naysayers!
July 15th, 2010 at 5:18 pm
@Hito: It’s probably your computer. The same thing happened to me, and also in Mazui’s Angel Beats when the title logo shows up, because the subtitles are very complicated and hard to load. Lots of effects were used to match the original Japanese, so that’s probably why.
July 16th, 2010 at 12:46 am
@RabbitDoubt
I switched MPC to Haali Renderer and it played just fine, but the quality is lower, I usually have it set to EVR. It’s been a while since a new CCCP came out, but I’ve had no problems playing recent videos.
July 16th, 2010 at 9:02 pm
@Hito: I got around that. Under MPC-HC Options > Subtitles > “Subpictures to buffer” increase to 2.
July 16th, 2010 at 9:05 pm
… after you click OK, close MPC, and reload the video.
July 17th, 2010 at 1:32 am
@Shadow
It was already set to 3, I messed around with the numbers and it was the same no matter what it was set to.
