So, I was doing a little research on the novels vs. the episodes. Yes, we still have the novels as a project, but don’t expect any releases any time soon. Anyways, here’s how they seem to line up.
1-3 – Novel 1
4 – Novel 2
5-7 – Novel 3
8-10 – Novel 4
11-13 – Novel 7
14-17 – Novel 8
18-20 – Novel 10
21-23 – Novel 11
So, as you can see, they skipped like 3 novels entirely. And not only that, but they skipped a novel with a perfectly good loli.
They better be going back soon to cover novels 5 or 6, or Kristen’s loli-lacking rage will emerge.
720p: Loli RAGE!
DDL: Moar Loli RAGE!
480p: lollater

Well, the second book obviously got the short end of the stick – though not as badly as the missing books (assuming that they never get adapted). As for the other ones, they’re still blowing through novels more quickly than normal. I believe that most of the anime that I’ve seen which have been adapted from light novels usually take 4 episodes per book. It’s certainly not a hard and fast rule, but that seems to be about the norm. Here, however, 3 seems to be the norm. I wonder why. It makes me wonder what’s being cut. Or are the books for Asura Cryin’ just shorter? Maybe it’s something to do with the author’s style.
In any case, wikipedia says that there are 13 novels and that they’re ongoing. So, at the current pace, they’ll have pretty much run out of material by the end of this season (especially if they never adapt 4-6). That makes it painfully likely for them to either make up their own ending or not being able to make another season any time soon, thereby likely making it so that we’ll never get the end. Certainly, it doesn’t make the situation look good. Hopefully, they have a good plan though.

*loli rageeeee*
wait that means Tomo still didn’t do anything with Kanade for the entire 10 novels (possibly more) ? bah loser

November 15th, 2009 at 8:53 pm
Thanks for the release but it looks like you forgot to attach font.
November 15th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
figured it out I extracted the font font from episode 18 and attached it to 19 and it worked

They do not necessarily need to “make up” an ending. Long Series usually have some natural breaking points. For instance at the end of an arc. Like Ruruoni Kenshin (forget spelling), after the Shishio arc, it would have been an acceptable ending to the series, even though there was a lot of material out. Maybe Asura Cryin will have a ending at a breakpoint like that.
November 15th, 2009 at 10:14 pm
Remember no one no for sure Asura Cryin would have another 13 episodes so it was originally to end at the airplane incident (without answering a ton of questions) but I know for sure that by the end of Asura Cryin 2 we will have a new ton of unanswered questions (since the light novels are ongoing) and it is for the better, IMO the original Full Metal Alchemist anime ending was lame, having to second guess and invent out of the blue an ending is a bad idea.

From what I’ve seen of other shows, it’s far more likely for a manga adaptation to make up an ending than a light novel adaption (for whatever reason). But if they run out of material, they’re either going to have to make an ending up (which I certainly hope they don’t do) or leave us hanging. If they leave us hanging, it may or may not be at a point that works well as an ending, I can’t imagine that it would work well enough to actually be satisfying (there are likely to be too many open questions if nothing else). And they may or may not come back to it in the future to adapt more after more novels are out.
However, having skipped 3 novels and only waited one season to put out the second season worries me. If they were really planning to adapt it all eventually, I’d have expected them to be more careful at pacing in order to not blow through the books as quickly. Even if the pacing of the episodes themselves is the best way to do it given the material, I’d have expected at least a year between seasons rather than just a few months, so that the author would have the chance to get farther ahead and they would limit their chances of catching up. The fact that they’re just blowing through it all makes me worry that they intend to end it with the second season (or maybe a third if they go back and adapt the missing ones). And if they _don’t_ intend to end it that way, they’re either going to have to start making up filler stuff or wait so long to make another season that we risk never seeing another season.

is it just me or is the aspect ratio off?
November 16th, 2009 at 2:36 am
Thanks for the release!
November 16th, 2009 at 8:15 am
@Ajalex
I believe that the aspect ratio is the same that it’s always been. Maybe it’s a setting in your player. Or maybe it’s just you.

Something is wrong with this episode. Enabling DXVA will mess up the video after the end of the OP and ED. And I’m always enabling my DXVA to get advantage of my video card so it’s a hassle to disable it just to watch this EP properly. It isn’t like that from EP 1-18. This kind of thing also happens on your Yoku Wakaru Gendai Mahou releases. Thanks for the release though.
November 17th, 2009 at 4:14 am
is it just me or is the mkv REALLY pixelated/messed up?
November 17th, 2009 at 4:43 am
@james
Not jst you, i notice the first 8 or so minutes was really bad, especially at the hill chasing scene
November 17th, 2009 at 11:45 am
Thanks for the release guys. Aspect ratio did seem kinda off, everything seemed vertically stretched compared to previous episodes. Unstyled font was solved by extracting from previous episode and remuxing. And I guess you just had a really bad TS due to the amount of distortion + pixelation.
November 17th, 2009 at 12:00 pm
Thanks for the release.
How do you extract the font from previous subtitles and convert this episodes’ font into it? Please leave a step by step procedure.
Thanks in advance.
November 17th, 2009 at 5:33 pm
every friggin episode iv watched of this or more correctly put TRYED to watch is friggin broken u cant watch the whole episode cuz it keeps skipping back to the beginning of the naime and getting stuck in an infinit loop of the first 30 seconds
November 17th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
why not try faq?
November 17th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
how come the op and ed suddenly dont work properly? especially the ed its all pixels and a weird mess of colours. anyone know how to fix this?
November 18th, 2009 at 6:24 am
Just wanted to mention that I see pixelation in it as well (00:10, 4:42, 18:31, 23:35, etc.). Not a complaint, just feedback. Will there be a V2, by chance?
November 18th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
From what i’ve been seeing around other fansub sites coreavc and the new h264 are not working so well with each other. I had the same problem and then disabled my coreavc and it worked just fine.
November 18th, 2009 at 7:28 pm
Definitely wrong to skip a perfectly good loli. But amazed at how many novels they’ve burned through already.
November 19th, 2009 at 3:44 am
@kaguzuchi
Thanks! I installed FFDShow and enabled it for H.264 and the video runs without problems. Still, I’d much rather prefer to be able to run it under just CoreAVC instead of having to toggle FFDShow on and off for certain shows, but I guess we’ll have to wait til Core comes out with an update.
@Maradona
Thanks for the tip, I got the font fixed too.
November 19th, 2009 at 10:56 am

November 23rd, 2009 at 5:20 am
Wasn’t first episode of season 2(episode 14) based on Vol.5 of the light novel?
November 23rd, 2009 at 5:27 am
Episode 14 should be based on Vol.5 except for Hikari is missing, it’s an episode about Rakurowa Underworld right? I think Vol.5 was about Rakurowa Underworld too.
Not just Hikari, but Tamao(1st Misao) is missing as well and she’s a core character of series who sacrifice her life to destroy central vortex in vol.13 so without her how the heck Anime will turn out?
I don’t know about episode 18 but episode 19 to 20 should be from vol.10 of the light novel.
Episode 21 was part of vol.11 of the light novel, so it is possible they cover all 13 volume on this second season but I hope ending isn’t like light novel’s. I hate sword master style ending.
November 26th, 2009 at 8:02 pm
it would be most appreciated if yo have a link for mkv and avi..
