Please excuse me for a bit while I allow my inner fangirl to run rampant. (My honey bun got so mad that he just had to fix this.)
Today, I saw “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”. I have never, ever, seen a movie this bad. Honestly, the entire movie was just a soap opera of one guy liking a girl, oh wait break up! Ron Weasly had a stupid look of “I am so high…” on for like the entire movie, and Harry was just… continual bad acting. Also, why did Dumbledore wear that band around his beard continually? Honestly, you go the first 3 movies without a tied beard. Adding one in on some occasions is fine. Yes, I know it’s a different actor. But, in reality, if you go 3 years without something annoying you, it won’t for the next 3 years.
Heck, they didn’t even know how to start the movie. I felt like it took an hour to actually get into the story instead of showing off their new fancy special effects. Did they really need to spend 5 minutes showing the room getting repaired at the start?
Now, the worst part is, they completely took out anything important from the book! I mean, sure, ___ killed ____, they all heard about the ____ that Voldemort made, and they went to the ____ to get the ____. But, what happened to the story about Voldemort’s parents? The story about the cup? His application to be defense against the dark arts teacher? The reason why ____ is the Half-Blood Prince? Hermione’s continually whining about that book? And, they didn’t even bother to show the O.W.L. grades, which was honestly the thing I was most excited about in the 6th book. And ____ didn’t even immobilize Harry in the end!
This was probably the worst movie I’ve ever seen. Please excuse me while I re-read the book to get what ACTUALLY happened.

District 9
August 15th, 2009 at 7:12 pm
^^ i agree, district 9 was amazing
August 15th, 2009 at 7:17 pm
Thank God I wasnt the only one
August 15th, 2009 at 7:33 pm
Right on Kristen….I seriously dunno y the do so well in box office…I prefer the book…Although Emma Watson is a site for sore eyes
August 15th, 2009 at 7:35 pm
When I saw it I was asking if I would recieve a discount on the next one since this one hasn’t anything important on it. Unfortunately this was the first Harry movie I went to a theater to watch it, what a wast, now I’ll keep DLing’em and avoiding wasting my money on BS.
August 15th, 2009 at 7:37 pm
I agree w/ you fully, I don’t know why thousands of people flock to movies that they know they’ll be disappointed w/. I read the books and that satisfied me completely, but people need someone else to tell the story to understand it. It SUCKS.
August 15th, 2009 at 7:38 pm
I agree 1,000% Kristen!! This Movie was Ass and Should have NEVER Been Made … I would Rather go watch Bruno (and I DESPISE Sasha Cohen …)
August 15th, 2009 at 7:44 pm
someone said, there will be sequel, like Harry Potter and Half-Hearted Flop B. LOL, but sure. I watched the movie in China, i had a 2 months trip this summer. To be honest, this movies is the worst of all. I was half-sleep and talking with my girlfriend during the movie, very boring.
August 15th, 2009 at 8:07 pm
hur hur. Rampid – it is now a word. <3
August 15th, 2009 at 8:10 pm
Don’t need to excuse yourself.
Every one feels the same….
its better to let i all out then bottle it up.
August 15th, 2009 at 8:18 pm
You know… I was actually disappointed too… This movie out of all that have been produced has been the worst of the bunch I think. It doesn’t really explain anything, like about why the professor had to drink instead of scooping out… things like that…
I did not imagine my self saying this because I usually like the movies but honestly… I really prefer the book this time…
August 15th, 2009 at 8:24 pm
Everyone that had read the book so far i know feels the same….
the movie was more about Ron and his love affairs than the “Half-blood prince”
and that is a very critical point that they should had considered…
August 15th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
true this, but the book was pretty large too….they shoulda split it up into 2 parts like the 7th
although some huge book like LOTR was made into a great movie
August 15th, 2009 at 8:55 pm
It was afwul, but we knew that from the start after all; everything from the third movie: Prisoners of Azkaban showed us that we would be in for quite some disappointment. Wich is ironic considering the fact that the books actually increase in entertainment value from the third book and up
August 15th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
Oh come on. Every single Harry Potter movie has been crap and you all know this. Girls watch it because of the actors and only kids get really into it lol! Just mix a best seller book story line add some special effects and “pretty” actors and you’ve got yourself a movie. That is what the majority of the movies are like now. So sad
August 15th, 2009 at 9:23 pm
I think Harry Potter lost the interest from many people due to movies like this one and also all the dissapointed girls that now see they malo-idol turned into a gay english, even Ganondorf is gay now. WTF is wrong with the english people. Anyway keep on that track since that would left more space for all us.
August 15th, 2009 at 9:27 pm
The worse you’ve seen? What about the previous 5 other HP films? G.I. Joe? Transformers 2?
August 15th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
Agreed this film was a soap. The third one is still worse in my eyes though. But not much. And you can be sure the 7th one is messed up to. Seeing as how they decided to leave giant parts missing,
blow up a house and not get some people scarred for life…
August 15th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
Cry me the river of tears and swim away
August 15th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
It wasn’t amazing, and didn’t live up to the book. But they’re splitting the last book into two movies; I have a feeling they kept some of the backstory about Voldemort from 6 to put into the last two movies and flesh them out some. We can only hope
August 15th, 2009 at 10:32 pm
It was bad bad and I wished I had never gone to see it. I dont think I am going to the last one because this one was just so bad. They should have made it 2 movies the come out in the same year such and July and Dec. I was so looking forward to the battle at the end of the movie but these was none at all.
I HATE YOU!!! I HAD FORGOTTEN ALL ABOUT THAT THING THEY CALLED A MOVIE AND YOU CUT ME OPEN AND MADE ME REMEMBER IT!!!!!!!! (goes into a corner to cry for a bit…)
August 15th, 2009 at 10:38 pm
it was ok…but its like when your watching an Anime, and it stairs away from the manga as it goes on :<
August 15th, 2009 at 10:45 pm
You watched a Harry Potter movie and didn’t enjoy it. I feel no pity for you. If you like, the next time you feel inclined to do something quite so stupid again I can have you shot and killed. And when you get to Hell (as all Potter fans invariably do), tell them I sent you. You’ll get a group discount.
August 15th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
wen i watched it on opening day, i laughed my ass off. wen draco was running from harry and he went to the bathroom and started crying, it looked like harry was gonna raep him.
August 15th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
Run rampant, not rampid.
August 15th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
Ok people, realize one thing. It is a MOVIE BASED OFF OF A BOOK. Since this is the case, of course the movie will be a bastardization (simplification, random abridging, etc…) of the book. All books based on movies are, with the possible exception of The Lord of the Rings.
August 15th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
I agree, the last two Harry Potter movies totally disappointed me. They suck…. Enough said. Almost no Action.. I haven’t read to books ( i faint when i see how thick it is ) but i thought the film would at least be a little interesting….. wasted 2 hours and many cokes for a soap/drama movie?
August 15th, 2009 at 11:48 pm
teh excitement has died… they don’t care anymore what is the outcome here. they sure suck. brits I mean. they don’t have the samekind enthusiasm as Americans have when they do movies.
August 16th, 2009 at 12:30 am
Someone might have already mentioned this but i heard they are making 2 more movies (suppose to be just for the final book just split in half) but perhaps they will add the more important plot points left out in this one in the next movie. I could be completely wrong about that but just a thought.
I can’t honestly say I’ve read the books, but i went to see this movie recently and i wasnt amazed, there were long segments that were for lack of a better word were boring. Like i know the plot of the whole series (thank you wikipedia) so there wasnt any “whats going on i dont understand” moments they just dragging certain things on for too long but i also had to pee really bad starting at like 20 minutes in so my opinion is kinda skewed
Thanks again for the anime
August 16th, 2009 at 12:52 am
This movie was worse than G.I. Joe and a tie for Transformers 2, which is pretty fucking sad since the book was very good source material and seemed to be gutted of everything even resembling the main plot devices.
August 16th, 2009 at 12:55 am
Oh and for those blaming the brits for the problems with the HP movies… The blame lies squarely on Hollywood. The books were written by a Brit, the movies and the screenplays were the device of Hollywood. Warner Brothers should have stuck to Loony Toons and never tried to be a real movie studio.
August 16th, 2009 at 2:04 am
@Tornado261: I wouldn’t go so far as to say EVERY movie made from a book is a bastardization of the original. Such movies fall into 3 catagories: 1, Not as thurough as the book (granted) but likeable 2, Gutted piece of shit not worth watching, and 3, WTF, is the only thing in common with these two versions the title!?
A good movie, based on a book or otherwise, is a stand alone piece that can be enjoyed without seeing other mediums of it.
August 16th, 2009 at 2:21 am
At least it was more hilarious than the book. I was laughing out loud for 2 and a half hours.
August 16th, 2009 at 2:54 am
@Ren: “WTF, is the only thing in common with these two versions the title!?”
Case in point = Rosario+Vampire/Capu2
August 16th, 2009 at 4:19 am
i agree didnt like the movie at all!!
August 16th, 2009 at 4:56 am
Haven’t seen the movie yet but I’m assuming its failure will be similar to the movie Eragon
August 16th, 2009 at 4:59 am
Right on Kristen I seriously like the movies but this one was dead from the start
August 16th, 2009 at 5:08 am
The movie sucks and whats with ginny and harry kissing in the room of requirement.
The movie is a BIG SH** I hate it totally. I was like hoping it will be good but they totally destroy it. Like the order of phoenix where they remove a LOT OF PARTS but this time they really blew it.
I hate it and specially why the heck did they try to change the actress for ginny. She’s taller than harry and she isn’t really that cute… well for me that is. And where did they put the great detention of harry and also they alter the order of what’s happening. And I didn’t even see dumbledore groggy riding the broom. No tonks too. They hasten it too much that its a crap. And the last part where the flight of the prince. its totally BAD! I REALLY HATE IT. So much for my skipping of class for the first airing of it on the theater.
August 16th, 2009 at 5:19 am
I agree I really disliked the movie it felt like stuff was missing, and after rereading through the 6th book to see what was gone I was even more disappointed.
August 16th, 2009 at 5:26 am
Re: above comments…
Nothing could be worse than Eragon (except possibly the Dark Is Rising movie). It turned a great fantasy book into a kiddie, overdone, stereotypical bastardization. And people liked it. Why? Because it was the same mindless drivel that Twilight, Hannah Montana, and the Jonas Brothers embody…SQUEEEE OMG IT’S SOMEBODY POPULAR, (S)HE’S SOOOO KYOOT!
And on the topic of the LotR movies…they were well done but certainly abridged things…like Tom Bombadil, who I was eager to see.
August 16th, 2009 at 5:44 am
5th potter movie was pretty terrible too
August 16th, 2009 at 6:29 am
at least hermonie is finally legal xD
i think the movies started to let me down when they cut the quiditch world cup in the 4th movie…
August 16th, 2009 at 7:04 am
i agree they never even think of putting the important part more detail and miss out some important part too
August 16th, 2009 at 7:18 am
@ erdvilla
Umm, did you really mean to say GANONDORF? I don’t remember any Zelda characters in the movie. Although I’d like to warlock punch a couple of those lame characters.
I never really liked Harry Potter in general. I just seemed like Naruto, but with wizards instead of ninjas. There are so many parallels between the two its unbelievable. Also the action in the movies is totally lame. You would think that with all the spells they know they could do more then shoot spells at you that push you. At least Naruto use to have interesting action (emphasis on the use to).
August 16th, 2009 at 8:14 am
Hahahaha Ganondorf LOL!
August 16th, 2009 at 9:42 am
Fact is, a book is terrible material to make a movie. If you want to make a good movie, you have to betray the book and not adapt it. So i don’t care that much about differencies between a book and a film adaptation… but the movie has to be good, obviously.
(By the way, some of the greatest movies out there were adapted not from novels, but from short stories. Short stories leave more room for a scenarist and a director to do something great.)
There’s a different kind of film adaptation that wasn’t mentioned: one that steer away from the original material, so that the director can do something great with it. See Blade Runner, for instance (even the title is different from the original title of the book). Or 2001: A Space Odyssey, with its very strong aesthetic focus that overwhelms the plot.
Re: HP & The Half-Blood Prince: the original book may be one of the weakest in the series, in my opinion. So i was quite worried already. Now i don’t care that Hollywood screwed it up. What i care about is HOW GOOD THE AOI HANA ANIME IS (as i LOVE the original manga), and i can say that it is PRETTY DARN GOOD. People can wretch any other book adaptation this year, i don’t care.
August 16th, 2009 at 9:58 am
Oh no… Looser Potter discussion on Chihiro…
Please Kristen, don’t ruin the site with things like this.
August 16th, 2009 at 11:03 am
instead of talking about obviously bad films, why dont we have a release of gendai mahou 5 and 6 instead?
August 16th, 2009 at 11:16 am
ok.. harry potter is just a pothead who do pot sessions.. lol.. don’t take this seriously. xD
August 16th, 2009 at 11:23 am
Kristin,
I don’t agree. I think this movie was fine. Its purpose was to finish off the love story stuff, in order to prepare for the action in the final two. I expect you’ll find that much of the missing content of this movie was pushed forward into the next film. After all, when filming the last book, there’s a lot of boring repetition in the middle part that can be got rid of.
If you’ve never seen a movie this bad (cough, Star Wars episodes 1 & 2, cough, cough) you don’t get out much.
August 16th, 2009 at 12:49 pm
I agree wholeheartedly with you Kristen, the only upside to this move is that they could only do better with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. My fervent hope is that because they’ve gone to the effort of breaking the 7th book up into 2 movies(released too far apart to suit me, but I’ll deal) is that they won’t cut anything and they won’t add in anymore stupid scenes that have nothing to do with the material in the book. I will admit that while I’ve watched the first 5 movies, only one paid for in theaters, that I refuse to watch the 6th until just before the 7th comes out on the grounds that every single review from a semi-intelligent person I have heard has reported movie 6 as complete and utter crap.
Here’s to the hope that Hollywood will stop butchering good stories in the name of special effects and their vision of how a story should be. Let’s face it, if the story wasn’t good to begin with, the books would never have reached the level of acclaim they currently enjoy, so what the hell are you doing editing the movie to suit your idea of how it should be?
I think J.K. Rowling should head into the studio and start Avada Kedavra’ing the director, the write, the producer, the editors, and the guy who gets them coffee and donuts just for the hell of it.
August 16th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
heh heh people after seeing this film say its crap but can readers of the book really have hope for the last one? i mean come on readers of the last book should already know how the author decided to end it, too much of a cliche almost as bad as ..and then i woke up.. ending a book
August 16th, 2009 at 2:32 pm
RAMPANT
August 16th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
What about back at the Burrow, where ____ is marrying ____ ? And ____ gets attacked by _____ at the end and becomes half _____ ? >.>
I mean it’s pretty important, since there’s that wedding scene next book.
I kinda liked it though, I guess.
August 16th, 2009 at 3:36 pm
well… you can’t honestly expect a movie to contain every single detail of the book…
none of the Harry Potter movies were that accurate to begin with.
If you want to know the story the way it should be… read the book(s)… if you want to have some amusement by watching a magical world etc. … go see the movie(s) and don’t think about all the things that were left out.
Heck, I thought LOTR movies were lacking some stuff too, because I read the books… but they still turned out just fine despite that.
Anyways, if they seriously wanted to cover all the details the movie would be so long, people would start complaining about that… Quite frankly there’s always something to be complained about. Particularly about books that are cinemated.
Anyways… Haven’t watched this movie yet, so perhaps I’m a poor judge to say all this now, but ok…
August 16th, 2009 at 4:03 pm
Not bashing HP or anything but HBP really did lack the charm the series started out with.
As for most of the details that they left out here im guessing they will be added into the last film.
Cause honestly if you read the last book you will notice that there really wasnt much stuff going on.
The good stuff was really only the ending. Since in the last book most of the pages was taken up by the groups emo trip looking for you know whatxes. As soppy as HBP was, it still didnt compare to how the whatxes arc in the last book. Well as far as series goes, as long as they dont die off in the end like loltrix thats fine with me.
August 16th, 2009 at 6:21 pm
I thought 5th movie was a piece of shit so I didn’t watch this one either. I’ll check out 7th just to see how bad it will suck
August 16th, 2009 at 6:40 pm
i love the hyperbole in these comments…and in your assessment no less. “worst movie you’ve ever seen”? what, have you only watched like 2 movies in your life?
August 16th, 2009 at 7:12 pm
but you’ve completely forgot about how _____ totally Duroed and Engorgioed his _____, Incarceroused ______, then had his way with her……………
wait sorry, I think that’s “Hairy Peter and the Heinous Blood-Stalk”
August 16th, 2009 at 7:13 pm
Re: i2h,
I hope you’re making a personal observation as a somewhat-impartial-and-disinterested third-party, rather than actually defending this (or any) Potter movie…
As for your statement, “worst movie you’ve ever seen” is like any memory and subject to change. Every movie you go see from now until you die is potentially the “worst movie you’ve ever seen”. The title goes to the first movie that pops into your mind when someone or something reminds you how you wasted your time/money on it and it just boils your blood with regret and disgust.
Though you are somewhat right; labeling a recent movie as “worst” is a bit unbelievable. When the fresh regret wears off, you might think it wasn’t THAT bad (ie Star Wars prequels). Which is why I always practice walking out a movie theater and exclaiming, “That was the SECOND worst movie I’ve ever seen.” What was the worst? I can’t remember off-hand. Probably “Plan 9 From Outer Space”. ; P
August 16th, 2009 at 7:23 pm
on a serious note, as the book series has (or will be, I’m not totally sure on that right now) come to an end, it’s possible certain chunks are being redistributed so as to stretch out the movie series. they are extremely popular movies, and I wouldn’t put it past the studio to milk it for as much money as inhumanly possible
August 16th, 2009 at 7:44 pm
Re: i2h,
If you understand that they are using a hyperbole you should not take their comments word for word.
August 16th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
@Vlaeghe:
[well… you can’t honestly expect a movie to contain every single detail of the book…
none of the Harry Potter movies were that accurate to begin with.
Nop, but there is a difference between “missing out a few details”, or “containing only a few details”. In this case, the movie only contains a few details of the book and skipped 95% of the book.
But heck, the only reason why I watched this movie is to see Emma Watson, so ….
August 17th, 2009 at 2:31 am
The movie was good. Emma watson was in it =]
August 17th, 2009 at 4:57 am
By the time I reached the final scene I was hoping the writers and director had chosen to say the hell with the book completely and just have Snape kill everyone in the theatre to put them out of their suffering.
August 17th, 2009 at 7:08 am
District 9.
Oh and stop ranting and start subbing -_-, Gendai Maho 5 & 6.
August 17th, 2009 at 11:43 am
Are you guys doing hatsukoi still or what
fffuuu-
August 17th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
hmm… “they’re on to their personal thing” as usual…. go m.3.3.w. sub if u can wait.. its much better
August 17th, 2009 at 4:28 pm
Did you release K-ON2 BD on TT?
August 17th, 2009 at 5:33 pm
HP Movies started sucking the moment Chris Columbus left.
First and second was fine but after that… Well, the third wasn’t as bad though.
But yeah, I agree the movie SUCKED WHERE’S THE CUP AND OWL?!
Bummed I actually paid for it on the first day of release.
Wasn’t expecting much but D:
August 17th, 2009 at 9:18 pm
Oh for cryin’ out loud be quiet while we extract your hard earned currency, now go pre-order the DVD and/or Blu-ray disc like the good fangirls and fanboys you are.
August 17th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
lol @ “MPAA”
August 17th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
Personally if i was the producers for HP, i would milk the last arc as much as i can.
Make it like a 2-3 part series, considering how much details would have been dropped for a single movie.
August 17th, 2009 at 10:20 pm
“Today, I saw “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”. I have never, ever, seen a movie this bad.”
You obviously haven’t watched Bruno.
August 18th, 2009 at 12:48 pm
I read all 7 books and then watched the movies right after about 3 months ago. The first 3 movies lived up to the story in the books with small exclusions. After that the movies start to move in a different direction from the books. I wish they would make the Wheel of Time series into a movie but if they did it right it would have to be at least 12 movies and I don’t see that happening without it being ruined in the process somewhere.
August 18th, 2009 at 6:26 pm
The movie wasn’t bad, I liked it alot. But then again, I’m pretty good at not obsessing over meaningless things and let it ruin the movie in my head. Ooh burn.
August 19th, 2009 at 1:47 pm
Your missing a few parts as well. like how the two became prefects, the whole winning the cup again, AND THE FUCKING FUNERAL, WHERE THE HELL DID THAT GO?!?!
August 19th, 2009 at 10:03 pm
Thanks for the warning. Will never see this movie unless I’m forced with a stick… (with poo on it)
August 20th, 2009 at 7:31 am
LOL it is so funny how you guys wasted your time to watch that!! I read the first and second book between grade 2 and 3 and got the second book read to me in grade 3 also and that was it!! (My sister on the other hand read all of them and that stupid twilight series (very awful by the way never understood why there is such a big fuss over it because the underworld series was a much better vampire/werewolve story)) I had moved on and found a beter series, Artemis Fowl (read every book to date and currently waiting for the movie that has been delayed because of a stupid dispute between some companies) I watched the first three movies in pain because they missed out alot of parts and then when i watched the fourth movie I was appaulled that they were too cheap to wear uniforms in the movie which made Hogwarts look like a school that would let in any riff raff that had half a brain which knew magic excisted. After that i just watched the movies out of my habit of finishing a series I start (a painful habit that I have to indure anytime i start watching horrible anime (though i stopped watching Naruto because its fillers just were that bad (both series alike)) which forces me to watch Half blood prince when it comes out in theaters
August 20th, 2009 at 7:31 am
on dvd i mean
August 21st, 2009 at 9:39 pm
ugh… once Richard Harris died the magic died.
Ian McKellan should’ve gotten the role, despite his and Harris’ arguments in the past.
August 26th, 2009 at 5:50 pm
It was a waste of money and time. First because I cut an expensive ticket for Imax 3d,which I missed because of entering late, second because the entire movie did not have a point.. it was boring, full of crap love-affairs and unjoined scenes/plots,bad acting with exceptions. effects as usual -Great! but did not help the movie. neither did the music support the movie in any way. Wher was the stress on THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE???? it was ‘Harry Potter & The Boring Love Affairs’ movie. Dumbledore’s death so dissapointing!. Funeral should have been there. Bad Bad ending! total waste of everything!. The writter Steve Kloves should be SACKED, with the DIRECTOR as well ! Michael Gambon gave a good performance!
August 27th, 2009 at 7:03 pm
ya i ttly agree with you the only good thing about the movie was the special effects
August 30th, 2009 at 8:10 pm
Good thing I haven’t watched. The real good movie were the first two, after that it went down the hill. And British English is annoying to understand and I kinda hate having to read subtitles for a language I actually understand.
The books are way better. We surely forgive you for going mad and sharing with us. <3
August 6th, 2010 at 6:07 am
Emma Watson is extremely hot! I truly like her.
April 8th, 2011 at 12:34 am
Please tell me True Blood is starting soon
