So, I was an idiot. I forgot that kanamemo airs on a date that is completely unfeasible for us to do, so we were sitting around two nights ago trying to figure out what to do. We eventually came up with this thanks to some drops from other groups. This means that yes, we will not be doing kanamemo the upcoming season. I would’ve loved to do it, it just airs on a date that our translators have problems with, which would make an automatic delay to Friday which I doubt anyone wants.
Couple of notes with the release:
1. We are using Television Saitama instead of Tokyo MX because TV-S airs it in 1440×1080 instead of boxed, and hence looks better at 848×480. Kristen is a moron.
2. The source looks like crap. There will be no 720p release for this.
3. Due to number 2, I fully intend to do the DVDs.
4. No XviD.
5. We will be doing Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody, probably a little later this week.
6. Kyonko is more awesome than any of the girls in the series, so hence the screenshot is of kyonko instead of asahina or yuki.

Well I don’t think that subbing this is a good idea. It’s a great anime but afk is subbing this season (they did sub the first season), so there is no need to sub this.
If afk subbed in h.264, I’d agree with you. But they use divx crap.

I don’t mind delay if it’s the only way to get it. I hope someone will do Kanamemo.
As for Haruhi, I believe there won’t be any shortage of groups who will do this show… Having said that, I do like that Chihiro pick this up… at least this (almost) guarantee that Haruhi will be subbed in a timely manner..
And about Kanamemo…
I think you guys should wait a couple of weeks when Kanamemo airs and see whether someone pick this up… if not then I hope you guys can still consider to sub this show (assuming that the show is good).

Kyonko is kyon as a female. It is a fanbased creation, so it would only be found in doujin circles.
Xargin, it is the 12th episode chronologically, the 2nd episode of the new season, and the first we subbed.

its a huge hint to the whole endless eight story
the fact that it tells you “the obon festival that was over in the intro yet they are preparing to go to the fest” is a huge hint to the mind screw thats coming up in the next ep
the anime has gone to great lengths to put very very subtle clues in the ep (4 by my count) just pointing an arrow at one will lose its effect with the next ep’s reveal.

I do however note that KyoAni’s marvellous and well-placed attention to detail hasn’t faltered since S1 (but I think the animation quality has dropped a little). That’s all I’m saying.

Don’t worry, you don’t need to do XviD. a.f.k. definitely have you covered there (and it’s awesome they really are doing S2, because they may be encoding xvid, but they do it with magic pixie dust that makes it look very, very good for what is now such an old format!), but they only do xvid so there’s no danger of overlap.
See, the wonderful thing about this is, I have a.f.k. for oldschool AVI, and Chihiro for newschool MKV. Shame the source is a bit patchy, but that’s what Blu-Ray is for, in time. <3 Thank you so much!
As far as I can see, most of the others were special team-ups (Coalguys and GG? Dattebayo and Live-Evil?) that haven’t really lasted much beyond the first new ep.
For the interested, [Yuki] is releasing both seasons in air sequence as well, and from what I’ve seen, with very great care, albeit not quickly (a worthy successor, imho, to Hitsuji’s legendarily experimental MKV monster release that paved the way to ordered chapter support; Sushi’s release is broadly OK, but gets the OP/ED framerate wrong).
The OP and ED on S2 are awful compared to the old ones, but really, how _do_ you follow Hare Hare Yukai? It’s the Minami-ke Okawari effect. You can’t, so you do something different and it doesn’t quite work. I therefore predict, like Minami-ke Okaeri, that if they ever get around to an S3, that the OP and ED will seem very… familiar.

@Myoukochou: All I know about Haruhi is what I saw from the original season. I never read any of the novels or anything. So I can’t spoil anything I don’t know.
@Raso: I’m not the translator either, but I did work on it and added in the note for the sake of the watchers that don’t know of that fact about Obon and to sort out any confusion from the intro sentence of the ep. That’s all I meant from it. If it happens to be an inadvertent spoiler, then I apologize, but I did not intend any spoiler from it.

Kyon and Kyonko both have never said their real name Kyon is a nickname spread by his sister (same would be for Kyonko her little brother)

I don’t know why but some one uploaded this onto AniDB as episode 2 rather than 12 so if you change the names when you add a file to your AniDB profile it will change this to “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya part 2″ instead of “Endless Eight” just thought you might want to know. Anyway thanks a ton for this episode. And thanks for the info on Kyonko I’ve been trying to figure out where she comes from for like a week but could only ever find pics of her (not that I’m complaining lol).

Awesome to see this on Chihiro. I’ll definitely be collecting this one, just as soon as I figure out which episode is which and what (since I shockingly haven’t seen the original series of Haruhi yet). Ouch. Since I tried to hold back from the Madness of Haruhi Suzumiya, I didn’t think I would watch this series. Sadly, you felt the need to not torrent the Xvid Hardsubs on this series (probably because quality would drop faster than Kyon’s proposals to Haruhi to have her act…less bossy). Don’t know about the Kyonko Doujins but it wouldn’t surprise me if She would steal the Spotlight…though it DOES disturb me that Haruhi might be a man in that one.
