Rotating banners every 3 months is fun, right? I hope? 
We’re looking for a summery banner to use next season. How many we’ll use is up to how many we like, but it may just be 1.
There are a few rules that are different, so please read.
1. Banners must be 800×250. Please do not round edges or do anything of that sort.
2. Banners can comprise of characters of any series chihiro has subbed since January 2009, or ef.
3. Banners are not allowed to have males in them. Females only.
4. Banners must not show nipples, vaginas, or uncovered butts. AKA, characters must have at least pantsu and a bra on.
5. Banners must be submitted by 10:00 AM on June 5th Eastern Standard Time. Please use http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/time-zone/usa/eastern-time/ to see what time it is in your area.
6. There is a limit of one banner per comment. If you wish to submit more, please make multiple comments with 1 banner contained in them. YOUR COMMENT WILL BE IGNORED AND DELETED BY WORDPRESS IF YOU POST MORE THAN ONE LINK IN IT.

Well what do you want us to do? Draw our own pictures and CG them…
Rendering those characters and adding a few effects is still ‘stealing’ Just like plagiarism. If you use a quote from somewhere without citation it’s exactly the same as simply using the original document as your work.

Well… to be honest I don’t really feel like doing static chihiro grafic. Sorry guys. BUT I do feel like doing dynamic one (though I’m steel learning how). Perhaps a mention of what’s allowed and disallowed as far as artwork would be good? “stolen”-wise, that is.
It’s not all that tough to find and contact the original artist if you use a fanart, or at the very least, mention the artist’s name (so someone else can ask them perhaps). Most artists will happily let you use their artwork, but you’ve gotta ask first before they can do that.
As an artist myself, I personally don’t mind my art being used, but on the condition that whoever is using it has the decency to ask my permission before they take it. And in this particular case, if Chihiro is the one that will ultimately end up using the banner, it’s them that will get in trouble for hosting pilfered pictures. And that’s not cool.

Most if not all the pictures people have submitted are taken from someone else or a screen cap and then edited.
… though my Yamamoto pic I posted in a Hatsukoi thread back in May was a “trace” i.e. I did actually ‘create’ it from scratch just drawing the outlines via tracing/adjusting over a bunch of screen caps … and then colouring and shading it …
If anyone is actually drawing the characters themselves … then that is way impressive!

Lastly I should add that most of the pictures you find on the net (not screen caps) are hard to find who drew them unless you find the pic on the actual site of the person who drew it … and are usually taken from some other original copyright source anyway …
That source would be a copyright character design or even based on a screen image from a copyright anime show.
I don’t think anyone around here will care too much about that … considering that’s effectively exactly was a fansub is anyway …

I agree with Ortix, it’s just for fun, so if the pictures look nice, why not just take them? Of course it is a bit rude to the creator, but only if said creator actually drew the picture himself and you didn’t ask for permission beforehand.
But I don’t think too many banners are complete rips from pictures looked up via search machines. For example, my last 2 ones included a cutout from a screenshot and the background is even an extract of a picture of the real sky I made myself (not espacialy for this contest but I saved it on a memory card once).

bah. They teach kids to infringe upon copyright in elementary school. But there it’s “acceptable” because it’s “educational.” Have no idea what I am talking about? How many of you had to cut magazines to shreds, glue the pieces to paper, then turn in the “collage” for a grade? It exactly the same thing we are doing here, except now it’s for fun, and not because we are forced to.
All whining aside though, I really look forward to which banners are gonna get chosen. There’s a lot of good ones!

thats friggin awesome. One complaint: the resolution (or cut-out edges) of the k-on cast is a lot worse on the ones that show up when you scroll over the Chihiro logo than the rest of the banner. Kinda stands out. (mebbe if you used a different background color than red…) Other than that, nice work!
