Do you know why I hate BS-i? Not only does it have even worse quality than TBS, and not only is it 3 weeks late, but… well, yeah, I guess that is why I hate BS-i. In other words, the encode quality is shitty, but it’s widescreen. Don’t ask if we’re doing the DVDs when they come out because we don’t know. It’s not censored, so I see no real necessity, but if I get bored I will. Asking if we’re doing them won’t increase the chances of it.
I feel like there was some more important stuff I wanted to say here, but with my alzheimer’s I’m always forgetting stuff. Oh well.

kaoru, anon, I value your opinion very much. I just need to delete those posts because this is trying to prove something, and spoiling it like that will destroy the test. There ARE reasons for this, just wait for ~2-3 days before saying it.

jo jo, we’re working on it. Please be patient. ^.^
February 1st, 2009 at 2:35 am

Soichiro I want to suck your cock because I know you’re not the one stalling Casshern and your encodes are so perfect and lovely.

BTW, how do you guys actually capture the vids? I’ve been wondering that for a long time.Do you guys live in japan and just record the series with a capture card? I know that sometimes you download Raws from other sites and stuff.
How does it work

Um, just curious….are all future releases of the AVI format going to be the same as this episode’s? It cannot be played on WMP. I’m guessing it’s not XViD but AVI but in a mkv container??? Please reply.

Download CCCP.
February 1st, 2009 at 5:18 am
??????????????
Quality won’t kill me… I can get the DVDs when they come out.
Seriously though, watching this episode reminded me of watching Rurouni Kenshin all those years ago, degozaruyo. Should be a good series.

whats the different between the already released version
February 1st, 2009 at 1:55 pm
Soichiro, please don’t reply with a meaningless answer that does not answer my questions.
I’m not moaning and groaning over the AVI in a mkv container. I simply wanted to know if all future releases will be the same or was it a one time thing etc, or will they do XViD since usually people go into an uproar about these things.
I don’t need CCCP when VLC (as shitty as it is) or Media Classic can play the files fine.
February 1st, 2009 at 2:06 pm
@wanderer: CCCP is not a player. It is a filter pack. It work together with a (good) player like MPC-HC. If this file does not work on that, they you don’t have the necessary filters, that can be found in CCCP. Also, the last part of your question does not make sense. I belive you meant to say “it is not xvid, but H264 in an avi container”. You can not have an avi in an mkv. These are both containers.
PS: You also fail for using VLC and WMP.

A _vital_ question (well, it’s vital to me):
Is this anime produced in 16:9 AR and then pan-and-scanned to 4:3? I mean, am I losing some of the picture by getting 4:3?
I definitely see things in that widescreen shot that don’t appear in the 4:3 video Chihiro has released, for example a lot more of the curtain and the edge of mirror closer to the camera–those can’t be seen in the 4:3 version.
P.S. The broadcaster must be insane to choose pan-and-scan over letterboxing!
February 1st, 2009 at 5:33 pm
By the way, please do the DVDs when they come out. I’m not asking if you will, I’m begging that you do so
February 1st, 2009 at 5:42 pm
@Yoichi:
Yes, the 4:3 version that airs early has part of the picture cropped off. I still don’t understand why TBS does this, especially since they definitely have the capability of airing 16:9 shows (they show Geass and Gundam, which everyone knows are HD). Probably to get people to buy DVDs. :p

@Soichiro: I see. Thanks for the tip.

@Jade
Thanks for the link! I’ve heard about CoreAVC before, but I never got around to trying it. It is indeed faster and I can now play h264 fine on my old P4 1.2 GHz computer! You’re a lifesaver bud.

ATTENTION:
The URL jade posted may seem okay but it actually contains a trojan–a keylogger to be exact. ESET Smart Security reports the download is infected by Win32/Spy.PerfKey.NAA.
If you have downloaded and installed from that URL I suggest you try scanning your hard disk from a _clean_ installation of an anti-virus of your choice.

What Yoichi said is correct. The link Jade posted contains a Trojan Horse. DO NOT DONWLOAD. I shall get Kristen to delete the link.

Regardless of BS-i’s quality, I much rather watching in widescreen. So, thanks guys for making it available – your efforts are much appreciated.
February 3rd, 2009 at 4:19 am
I agree with bluehat I enjoy the widescreen as well. Thanks!
