What about Translating here and adding orginal (Deutsch text) at the end?
It would be best, because everybody would have a translation when it’s needed and original if they want
Second option! Everytime I see some German in ef I’m happy (is a german himself). xD
Plus, I don’t like editing the original content too much.. Adding subtitles is one thing, erasing a whole paragraph of text another one. Therefore I suggest you leave it alone and simply put up a translation of it under the ef-notes-section here on the website.
I’ll watch your sub anyway, but I’d appreciate it, if you didn’t change original stuff the creators put into it too much. I mean… They would have their reasons for using german, right? Mostly as a stylistic divice, but it’s still part of the flow, especially if you think about Himura seeing Kuze of in german or Renji being half-german himself.
I just think simply removing/replacing it would also remove a part of the atmosphere. Besides, it isn’t as if there’s something important. It’s simply the lyrics of Yuukyuu no Tsubasa, so it really IS only a stylistic divice… No hidden meaning there which is needed for grasping the story or stuff.
In a situation like this I prefer making a ” Fade “.
where the English text would appear. Also, for those who want to read the original thing they can pause it before it changes.
I say just place it on the website; anyone interested will read it their. I am not going to stop the show to read it when I watch it through the first time. I’ll read about it after I am finished with the episode.
It doesn’t really matter to me, except that I don’t think you should erase the original text. I don’t speak German, but I think it should stay as close to the original form as possible. I’ll watch it either way, though.
Erase and put English. Only the anal should give a shit about the original german. Get the raw and go to Babelfish if you want an alternate translation or something.
Keep it as it is. If thats how the producers wanted it, it must have a meaning for showing it in German. Just add a note at the end of the epi or on the site for those who want to know what it says.
well if it was in JP i’d say erase that and write in EN…but with that German(which is the most f—-d up language,i’d say – translate it there and leave the text I suppose…I think that more people who watch it know German than JP…
Just leave the text as it is please, I would like things to stay as close to the orginal as possible.
A english version at the end or on the website would be fine though *nods*
Thank you for the hard work again~
yo, it would be nice to have it translated. Since it is German language, it’s sucks . I have learned it for 4 years, but I know nothing about Germany and germans … it’s horrible language, i am glad that i am from czech rep. a vy? )
Leave it like it is. The original goes over everything! You watch animes on JP because it’s the original. Most animes are going to be translated in english anyways but they suck! Original over all!
em, i think that puting the translated text on the site and in the show notes is the best option, but don’t forget to mention that in a “[TL note]:” at that point….
That’s difficult to say; we haven’t seen the episode and aren’t clear on whether the words written are central to the plot.
Is it information that we would need to know to follow along with the story, or could we just read it afterwards? I’d think we would have to know that before we could help make a decision.
I like the second option if I have to choose. I would love to see it translated like you normally do it with the words above and below the lines. If that typesetting takes too long, which I could foresee, than just go with the second. Thanks for your time and the speedy-er-than-most releases.
Hey guys, I think you should let it be like that.
My opinion is that ef is special beacuse of the poetry german words. I can read german and I can tell you that they aren`t really neccessary for the story.
But I have to admit that for one how can read german the anime becomes more exciting. If you can put the translation in a way that they be on the same page with the german words, than that will be great.
2nd (preferred) or 3rd option.
The german text is what the creators of the show placed into the anime.
The text is also there for an audience that speaks primarily Japanese and probably none or little German.
I appreciate the translation but would rather not have that which makes the show what it is taken away.
Personally I would consider changing groups if the original frames themselves are overwritten here (I mean no offence– I enjoy your speed and quality).
In my opinion, it is not required, but if you can translate it, keep the same quality/animations, and still get it in as soon as possible, then go for it.
The fade effect is the best choice as it preserves the original while still giving the meaning to everyone. If that’s too hard or would complicate things too much, then just translate and replace. The entire purpose of translation is to make sure it’s fully understandable to the target audience which in this case are English-speakers.
It’s really just a choice of whether or not you want to translate it or not. If you do then a fade/replacement is the best choice as it presents the most fluid transition, if not then don’t even put it on the website. It’s not like the original Japanese had the luxury of going to the ef homepage and getting a translation of the German. No matter how you want to reason it, it’s an all or nothing choice.
Don’t waste your time translating it at all. I’m sure that people eagerly awaiting this ep won’t even bother to read the translation and would prefer to have it come out faster. Chihiro is primarily a speed sub group anyways, speed is the most important aspect with a series that other groups are currently working on at the same time.
Second Option. I would like it to be at the end of the episode but you could also post it up here…
The original viewers most likely didn’t understand what it said, and its just there for the atmosphere anyway. BDraw said that its just a German version of ‘Yuukyuu no Tsubasa’ and that it is not really relevant to the plot so… yeah. Please, if you are going to translate it don’t get rid of the original. At most use the “fading” thing people are talking about.
Do the text come up instantly or do they scroll onto the page? If they scroll, you could have the translated text scroll over it again and speed up the scrolling.
If not, just have the translated be added at the end would be good with me.
I enjoy reading/understanding everything I see so if it could be translated, I would prefer that. However if it is translated later, I rewatch things a few times anyway just because so I wouldn’t miss out on anything >.>
Add the translation at the end and leave it as it is. The fact that the text is in German (German, right?) is most likely a major point of the episode, and recklessly HAXENGLISHing it wouldn’t be prudent.
Please leave the text as is and show the translation at the end, doing so ensures that you don’t tamper too much with the original work its the least translators can do to show appreciation for the artist work.
Don’t delete the german
Im sure the german is a crucial part of the story.
It’d be an epic fail to delete that.
If you make it english the point is lost. Translation at the end would be good though. or on site(i don’t mind, i can speak german to some level)
I dont say this cause i can understand it, but cause the english would fuck up all it’s meaning.
It’d make the pro-germans victims of the english lazy asses, while the german was there in the first place.
I prefer the second option. It’s better not editing any texts or deleting anything from the story. Having a TL note at the end is a good idea.
The first option would remove the German text, and it may be important and significant to the story. I wouldn’t prefer the third option, as I prefer to just refer to the translations at the end of the episode instead of going online for it in the far future.
I vote for option 2 ( or 3 ). It’s unlikely that the shows creators intended for their japanese speaking audience to understand it in the first place. Replacing it with english would change the character of the show.
Most of you probably wouldn’t be able to even read it all in the time that it will be shown. So why bother even trying to read it. It is somthing you come back to later and read or you just never read. Witch is why it should be at the end of the episode or only placed on the site with a note saying its translation is listed on the website or at the end of the episode.
Definitely at the end of the episode. Most people who download fansubs want it as close to the original as possible and since your videos are entirely softsubbed (minus karaoke and a couple other things) it allows us to turn off the subtitles and watch it as if it was the original raw (for the most part anyways).

The first option would be more convinient to the audience in my view, since one can pause the video and rewind as needed, also I think this is better since it may have an impact on the episode.
But which ever is more convinient to you group ^_^
this is a very bad german (in my opinion) and i should know cause I’m from austria, I am able to read it, but it sounds weird and no one would write so (not even Goethe or any other poet). I don’t even want to read it. (it just looks like they took a dictionary and just used some japanese phrases and translated them into german; example: Die vergessene Gestalt suchen – correct transl. would be: to look after the forgotten form/figure; plz don’t translate so)
Are any of the people posting these 88 bullshit comments actually involved in producing this fansub? If not, then why can’t you shut the fuck up and just let them do whatever they have decided? It isn’t a big deal. Did they post a poll asking for everyone to help them decide what to do?
ehm
Before this post was edited, they asked if everyone would comment on what they prefer.
It’s not that it’s obvious after 88 replies that all are about the same thing, but ok :’)

The german is not a crucial part of the story as you know. There is nothing lost if you translate it. Because it is nonsense at every point you view it. But you are already aware of it.
In the end (as noted before) leave it as it is. It makes no difference at all. Which language you ever choose, it is total crap.
@SAGO: They are by far, the fastest ef sub group out there already. Besides, if a little delay ensures higher quality subs, most of us will gladly oblige. And oh wait, you are getting them for free, aren’t you?
Oh by the way, thank you everyone who mentioned it, but we do pay attention to when official lyrics are released, so we’ve had these prepared all week. :p

@gomati
@AukustiE
……why?
November 4th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
I vote for the 2nd option, but whatever you choose, I’ll be glad to watch it!
November 4th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Erase the text on the left hand side and write the words in English.
November 4th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
Just go for it

*waiting Patiently*
idc German is not that hard for me
but go for it
November 4th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
Erase German text and write the words in English.
gomati’s idea is good too.

i vote 1st option!
November 4th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
post a translation in the site or at the end of the ep but dont overwrite the original
November 4th, 2008 at 3:53 pm
2nd option.
November 4th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
I vote to have the english text after the episode.
November 4th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
In the end it doesn’t matter. The text makes no sense in german oder english. Tese are only phrases without a proper meaning. In my opinion.
November 4th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
It doesn’t really matter to me, except that I don’t think you should erase the original text. I don’t speak German, but I think it should stay as close to the original form as possible. I’ll watch it either way, though.
November 4th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
erase the text and replace it with English…
November 4th, 2008 at 4:22 pm
In favor of leaving it in German and adding notes at the end. It’s not as if most of the Japanese viewers will know what it says, yes?
November 4th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
First opinion, but whatever you can do if fine with me:P
November 4th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
Let the text be! It’s better in german than in english^^ please only add notes to the end…
November 4th, 2008 at 4:57 pm
I’m choose 2nd way ^^~

( because I can speak and read german XD” )
No, kidding ( would be unfair to others û_u )
I guess a Note at the end would be the best Idea ._.

leave it as is and put the translation at the end of the episode.
November 4th, 2008 at 5:29 pm

November 4th, 2008 at 5:59 pm
go for the 2nd option in my opinion, since you could just add the TL notes at the end of the episode as usual
November 4th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
I vote for the second option, but it’d also be okay if you put the translation here on the site. Just don’t erase the original German, please ^__^
November 4th, 2008 at 6:21 pm
First.
November 4th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
Leave as is and put the english translation at the end of the episode.
November 4th, 2008 at 6:35 pm
erase and use english
though the opinions seem kinds split atm
November 4th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
Uhm, I think that remove the text and translate directly in that screen would be better
November 4th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
I vote for the first option!
November 4th, 2008 at 7:04 pm
english at the end plx
November 4th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
Translation at end or on site. Anything but changing the original.

Considering I can read german (more or less)…
I say to leave the text as it is and place the translation at the end.
Although “fading” is a good option as well. First the original (german) words, than replace them with the English translation.
November 4th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
I would prefer to see the original.
November 4th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
That’s difficult to say; we haven’t seen the episode and aren’t clear on whether the words written are central to the plot.

November 4th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
The fade effect is the best choice as it preserves the original while still giving the meaning to everyone. If that’s too hard or would complicate things too much, then just translate and replace. The entire purpose of translation is to make sure it’s fully understandable to the target audience which in this case are English-speakers.

I would prefer to read them in english, lazy to learn German now =.=
November 4th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
Another vote for removing the German text and replacing it with English.
November 4th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
Option 2: place notes at end of ep. I wish everyone would just standardize on that method for handling notes.
November 4th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Don’t change the original,
where you translate it or if you just don’t do it doesn’t matter to me.
November 4th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
i like the fade idea.
November 4th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
I would prefer a note at the end of the episode or at the notes on the site.
A fade effect would be a no go because it modifies the original style.
November 4th, 2008 at 10:22 pm

November 4th, 2008 at 10:25 pm
Excatly, it’s not meant to be understood but rather for the atmosphere and style of the show. Don’t ruin the original context.
November 4th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
the 2nd option.
Today Release OP & ED ef, you will update the Karaoke?
November 4th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
translate and rewrite in english
November 4th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
Do the text come up instantly or do they scroll onto the page? If they scroll, you could have the translated text scroll over it again and speed up the scrolling.
If not, just have the translated be added at the end would be good with me.
I enjoy reading/understanding everything I see so if it could be translated, I would prefer that. However if it is translated later, I rewatch things a few times anyway just because so I wouldn’t miss out on anything >.>

What is the point of translating it in the first place?
Fansubs are supposed to bring the show as close to what is is supposed to be presented to the elevens.
I’m pretty fucking sure that the elevens can’t read german or w/e
tl;dr Chihiro is doing some uncessary things
oh and btw, episode 5 is subbed

@ascendancy: “epic fail” is not an overstatement in this case (ef is simply too amazing)! please leave the original text as is.

It’s not that it’s obvious after 88 replies that all are about the same thing, but ok :’)

dont mess with the german text. Keep it how it is. I’m interested in what it says but I would rather you put it in the notes section after the anime.

“Don’t delete the german
Im sure the german is a crucial part of the story.
It’d be an epic fail to delete that.
If you make it english the point is lost. Translation at the end would be good though. or on site(i don’t mind, i can speak german to some level)
I dont say this cause i can understand it, but cause the english would fuck up all it’s meaning.
It’d make the pro-germans victims of the english lazy asses, while the german was there in the first place.”

The german is not a crucial part of the story as you know. There is nothing lost if you translate it. Because it is nonsense at every point you view it. But you are already aware of it.
In the end (as noted before) leave it as it is. It makes no difference at all. Which language you ever choose, it is total crap.

“What is the point of translating it in the first place?
Fansubs are supposed to bring the show as close to what is is supposed to be presented to the elevens.
I’m pretty fucking sure that the elevens can’t read german or w/e”

This. They made their decision though, and they made the right one. Yay.

Love, I’ve got to feel it
If you put your trust in me
I know what my life would be
Oh, you are all I ever need
I try to hear what you say
So I pray
But you’re fading away
Don’t go and break my fragile heart
We won’t fall apart
‘Cause you’re my only star
I wonder why my tears come at night
Calling you, so like a little child
All the things you have in mind
I wish I could see your insides
My love, you’ve got to feel it
And if we put our trust in you and me
You know what our lives would be
Oh, you are the one I believe
time for new lyrics?

This fansub is taking too long.

@SAGO: They are by far, the fastest ef sub group out there already. Besides, if a little delay ensures higher quality subs, most of us will gladly oblige. And oh wait, you are getting them for free, aren’t you?

Do us all a favor and stop complaining. Just wait for the release, complaints won’t have any positive effect.

Back in my day we didn’t have speedsubbers, so shut up and stop whining.

Oh by the way, thank you everyone who mentioned it, but we do pay attention to when official lyrics are released, so we’ve had these prepared all week. :p
