So, I guess we need a little explanation as to what this show is and stuff. This show aired in late 2007, and really nobody subbed it. There was one group that got up to episode 04, but that’s it.
So, Chihiro likes doing stalled series, and this is one of them. We may be doing one show a week and pretend like it’s airing now, or we may just do it rapid pace. Need to figure it out.
Here’s a few things about this show:
1. This is some info about the series
2. We’re not giving out 1280X720 h.264’s. I could not find a 1280X720 raw, so we won’t do it.
3. OP/ED will be subbed eventually.
4. We’ll fix the title with the XviD and so forth.

I haven’t downloaded it yet, becasue i’ve already seen the eps 1-4 subbed already, but the series is called “Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku wo” not “Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku Ou”… Even the AnimeNewsNetwork and AniDB both says “wo” not “Ou”

Expanding on what the above commenter stated: according to anidb, the translation of the title is Melody of the Sun and Sea, and as the only time I’ve heard “ou” used by itself is when it means “king” (or something similar), I’m pretty sure that he (and the rest) are correct.
…Speaking of titles, I’ve always found it odd how people don’t always translate titles that are more than just a couple words and are meaningful, and (to english-speakers, at least) sound better than the original Japanese. (For instance, this one: while “Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku wo” is all well and good, “Melody of the Sun and Sea” makes more sense for those who don’t know Japanese, and it is meaningful in that the story takes place on an island, hence the “sea” aspect and such….) Another such series would be They Are My Noble Masters (or “Kimi ga Aruji de Shitsuji ga Ore de”).
As stated above, I do consider how well the titles sound in the two languages a factor as well, which is why I do prefer the title “Utawarerumono” over “He Whose Song is Sung” because, well…the former sounds a bit better than the latter. Considering the official English title is still “Utawarerumono”, I’m not the only one who seems to think that way. XD

Well, it’s been a while so I really can’t see the producers being upset if the show is getting subbed again. It pretty much shows no one in the US is interested in picking it up and probably never will be. Also, I doubt there company is gonna release subs for us anytime soon. So might as well sub it for the fans that never finished it. Hell, if NoU and Monochrome Factor, not to mention other series are still being done, this shouldn’t be a problem either. I really have been wanting to finish this show for a long time. Thanks for picking it up again Chihiro. ^_^ Hope nothing hinders you from completing this one. ^_^

Melody of the Sun and Sea is not an accurate translation of “Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku wo”.
It translates to something like “The Promise Under This Blue Sky” or something similar.
Btw, are you using the DVDs as source?

I have ISO’s for KonoAo up to vol 5 (out of 7) but uploading isos is a no-go for me (monthly limited bandwidth).
But I can make raw files from dvds. Or direct encoding but I guess you won’t provide scripts/fonts (and I understand).

The Melody of Sun and Sea is the subtitle for the PS2 game port version. The title really is: Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku wo: Youkoso Tsugumi Ryou he (The promise under this blue sky: Welcome to Tsugumi Dormitory).
Glad you guys pick this up. The only reason it stopped at ep4 is because our translator said that he only liked Miyaho, thus the whole project goes into complete hiatus mode. I liked Naoko much better, though. lol

I sometimes wonder about how people who are really uppity about some little error… if you know Japanese, why watch subs?
Anyways for clarification the title Ou in my opinion is about as close as wo… simply because if you said wo people in japan would look at you like you learned japanese from babelfish…
they use the particle o, and the - (leading to the subtitle) was probably mistaken for the katakana long vowel. (which would make it ou)
while it is something that should be caught, it’s one of those things where the TLer was probably chinese, and put Ou and the TL check (who would have spotted it right away) didn’t even check the title because he was worried about the script…
but I guess the sky falls down whenever there’s some little mistake that doesn’t really matter

It’s nice that you like doing stalled series. I’ve actually got some series that have been stalled for a long time. The series that I have that have stalled midway are:
Saiunkoku Monogatari Season 2 (extremely slow??)
Hero Tales (unknown - maybe server down)
Fighting Wulong (hacked server)
It’s understandable if you don’t feel like subbing these anime. I’m just letting you of some series that I would like to have finished. Feel free to consider them.

So many stalled series being picked up these days - and any series that’s only partially subbed eventually becomes a mystery to me, thus making me more interested. Looks like another mystery is about to be dissolved.

I have found all the DVD from eps 1-13 (vol.1-7)+ NCOP & NCED + DVD cover & Booklet all from a chinese raw group….. They are all in H.264 (average 280ish) DVDrip, but not ISO files.
I am currently downloading them right now….. if you are interested, I can provide the dvdrips through rapidshare.

While I applaud the effort of Chihiro picking this really slow series up (Anime-RG actually posted yesterday that episode 5 will be released in a couple of days, so it’s not actually stalled) I’m a little unsure what to think about skipping the OP/ED.
Mind you, I generally don’t care about OP/ED as I usually skip them having seen/heard them a couple of times, but it feels like a rush job especially considering you will be doing them later. And a rush job at the very least hints at a lesser quality job being done which may be justified or not, but at least it feels that way to me. I mean, this series has been dragging on for quite some time so why not have waited a little longer and do the OP/ED as well?
Perhaps I’m a bit old fashioned about things like this and this is not meant as a bashing statement, but just my genuine opinion.

I believe it’s ,”Is that a feint’”, not faint. meaning that the girl from the day before was a mislead, not that anyone was going to pass out. Sorry for the nitpick as it was probably just a typo anyway. Thanks for the stuff that you do that I watch.
